In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the incorporation of the city of Florence, the Chamber of Commerce in that city is planning a gala Diamond Jubilee celebration on Monday, June 9, complete with whiskered, a mammoth parade featuring old fashioned vehicles and costumes, concerts by the Topeka Santa Fe Band, speaking and a free street dance. Bryan Harvey Jr. of Chicago, president of the Fred Harvey Co., and O.L. Gray of Topeka, general manager of the Santa Fe, will head the list of distinguished guests.
Marion veterans who plan to attend the reunion of the 35th Division in Kansas City, Mo., Friday and Saturday include Al Kirchner, Charles Niederhauser, Earl Linn, Homer Reinke, Ford Watson, Horace Sly and Ollie Wight.
Judge Jas. P. Coleman will be in Marion June 12 to hear the case brought against the City of Hillsboro by Jaeger and Schaeffler which is in effect seeking an injunction against building the municipal light plant for which bonds were voted months ago.
S.W. Gound and Ira Newcomer were in Kansas City, Mo., Monday attending a regional meeting of Ford dealers. Henry Ford II attended and spoke to the group, the first time a member of the Ford family had ever attended such a meeting.
Charlene Youk entertained Friday night with a slumber party and breakfast as a farewell for Jeannine Williamson who with her parents left Sunday for Minneapolis to make their home. The guest list was as follows: Jeannine, Janet Holub, Karen Brodhead, Marilyn Reh, Diana Herbert, and Ginger Price.
Patsy Harris, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Harris, sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, and Betty Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Williams, sponsored by the Kiwanis club through the Auxiliary, will attend Kansas Girls' State to be held in Lawrence July 6-13.
