Pvt. Arthur Crandall, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. R.S. Crandall of Tampa, deceased, was killed in action in New Guinea on May 31 according to a telegram from the war department received this week by his brother, Howard Crandall of Ramona.

The invasion of France at LeHarve made many a Marion man look back over 26 years as if it were yesterday. That's where Company M boys went into France that many years ago.

Major Frank S. Hollar, USMC, was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross for "extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial attacks against the enemy as pilot and commissioned officer of a Marion Scout bombing squadron operating in the Solomon Islands area from October 14 to November 23, 1943." He led 12 combined bombing attacks against and neutralized strongly defended enemy airfields. He also wears the Air Medal with Gold Star.

Bob Edmunds, Johnnie Brose, Don Hoover and Jack Beaston attended Boys' State at Wichita last week. The boys were sponsored by the American Legion.

The following girls enjoyed a picnic in the park Monday evening: Vivian Klein, Edith Fick, Bettie Lou Propp, Ailene and Arlene Pierce, Dixie Bledsoe, Ella Meier, and Jerry Shields.

A group of young people from Our Savior Lutheran Church enjoyed a picnic at the county lake Sunday afternoon. The group included Frances Schlotthauer, Cleo and Dolores Klein, Doris and Veona Wangerin, Howard Klein, LeRoy Brunner, Victor Winter and their pastor, Rev. Henry Knoke. Jerry Lou Johnson and Joan Kelsey were guests.

Mrs. Harry Weibert entertained with a picnic at the county lake Wednesday evening in honor of the tenth birthday of her daughter, Peggy. Those present were Laverne Metzler of Elmdale, Milly Lou Matthews, Bertha Ann Powell, Juanita Ford, Anita and Jean Kline, Norma Jane Dick, Patricia McCarty, Dolores Fisher, June Bailey, Nancy Burkholder, and Peggy. Mrs. Erwin Kline baked the cake and assisted Mrs. Weibert at the picnic.
