The Red Cross is making its first call to Marion people to contribute to the plasma bank for the aid of wounded soldiers by giving a pint of blood on July 24 at Emporia. Anyone willing to give a pint of blood should call John W. Gardner, Marion County chapter chairman or Mrs. Ed Hauser, blood donor service chairman. Anyone willing to furnish a car for transportation will also be doing the Red Cross a splendid service. The group will leave at noon. At least 26 donors are desired from Marion.

A group of her former fellow workers of the Bell Telephone Company entertained S/1c Mary Inez Ray Monday evening with a picnic at the waterworks park. The group included Miss Ray, Mrs. Winifred Meierhoff, Mrs. Walter Fruechting, Miss Lillie Keazer, Mrs. Bill Wright, Miss Irene Mohn and Mrs. John Dixon. Miss Ray left Wednesday for Bainbridge Island, Washington, for additional training.

Sgt. Edmond Sandwell is now in France according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.O. Sandwell. His last letter came through in just 10 days and he writes that on the first day of the invasion he went to Mass in England and on the second day he was in France. The only complaint that he registered that it was very warm there. Sgt. Sandwell is with the Engineering depot and has been in England for a year.

The Sub Debs who are decorating a window on Main Street by filling it with pictures of people in the service, ask that anyone wishing to loan such a picture call a member of the club or bring it in to Beaman's Barber Shop.

Mrs. Fred Hayen and baby, Jan, have gone to Newton for a couple days visit with her mother, Mrs. Carrie Brigham and sister, Mrs. Wayne Harrison and family. Don Hayen is spending a few days with his cousins, Donna and Doris Geis, on the farm at Durham.
