Rainfall of 1.63 inches, which fell over the weekend, .78 on Saturday and .85 Sunday and Monday, exceeded the fall of moisture in all of June. Only 1.12 inches fell during that hot, dry month. The welcome rain brought renewed life to pastures, gardens, and row crops.

Father John Vesecky assumed the duties of priest at St. John's Nep. Church at Pilsen Wednesday. He replaces the popular Rev. Emil Kapaun whose appointment as a chaplain in the military forces is pending awaiting the report of a physical examination given him a week ago Wednesday.

The Cozy Café which recently has undergone several changes in ownership was sold again last week to Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Knackstedt who are now operating it. Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Schlehuber were the former owners.

Jimmy Johnston a/c, who was struck in the mouth by a baseball in a game at Farragut, Idaho, last week writes his stepsister, Nancy Colburn, that they stuck him away in the hospital for five or six weeks. He came out the loser in the game by a matter of several teeth and a broken jaw.

T/5 Edward Good and Mrs. Good are the parents of a son, Thomas Eugene, born July 1 at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

Al Richardson was appointed last week as a member of the post war planning committee of the State Chamber of Commerce for state highways.

Those enjoying a picnic at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Vogel Sunday evening in honor of 2nd Lt. Edward Stenzel, who is home on furlough, were Miss Helen Stenzel, Mrs. Johnny Zimmerman, Mr. and Mrs. Karl Vogel and Coleen, Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Vogel and Vernon, Mrs. Lean Ehrlich, Harold and Junior, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Vogel, Charles Stenzel, and Harry Evans.
