The Lakeside Airport, officially designated last week by the Civil Aeronautics Administration, will be introduced to the community October 15 with an air show beginning at 2 p.m. The Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the event at which acrobatic demonstrations and passenger rides will be featured, weather permitting.

For leading a unit of combat engineers in the construction of a bridge while under heavy fire, Major Paul I. Brose of Marion recently was awarded the Bronze Star on the Fifth Army front in Italy. According to the citation that accompanies the presentation of the award, the major (then a captain) was assigned the mission of constructing a bridge over the Aniene River near Rome.

Ann Burkholder was guest of honor at a supper and slumber party at the Burkholder home Friday night, the occasion being her birthday which was Sunday. Those enjoying the party were Patsy Harris, Betty Williams, Donna Hobein, Cherridah Mullikin, Dawna Summervill, Loyette Hollar, and Ann.

Jess Coons, Leslie Powell, Clive Jarvis and Albert Williams left for part of the week for Colorado where they will hunt deer.

Bid 'n Hope Club met Tuesday evening at the home of Miss Mabel Winner. Ruth Jo Willming was a guest and a very pleasant evening of bridge was enjoyed by her and the following members: Clara McKay, Clara Duncan, Julia Campbell, Edna Rupp, Marjorie King, Martha DeMand, Agnes Wiens Willis and Miss Winne.

Miss Eyleen Graham, who was reared in Syracuse, Kansas, and was graduated from Kansas State College, Manhattan, last spring, has accepted the position of home demonstration agent of Marion County. She will assume her duties the middle of October.

A total of 5.35 inches has fallen during the last ten days, according to Dr. P.J. Garrison, weather recorder.

A new screen was installed at the Kaw Theatre Tuesday. Patrons Tuesday night of the Technicolor picture, "Cobra Woman," were aware of the great improvement in projection and sound.
