Eighty-two people from 37 Marion business firms attended the intensive salesmanship school held in the City Building Monday and Tuesday presented by the Extension Department of the University of Kansas. The event was sponsored by the Marion Chamber of Commerce.

Robert Britton of Florence has been employed by the Marion Cabinet Shop. New machinery added to make the cabinet shop a completely equipped shop include a radial arm saw, new jointer, new lathe, and new sander.

Election of class officers was held at Marion High School recently and resulted as follows: Seniors — Forrest Kelsey, president; Dean Hansen, vice president; Loyette Hollar, secretary-treasurer. Juniors — Lois Kelsey, president; Mary L. Heath, vice president; Madeline Penland, secretary-treasurer. Sophomores — Jim Fruechting, president; Nora Zeller, vice president; Max Merrill, secretary-treasurer. Freshmen — Robert Skibbe, president; Kent Richmond, vice president; Carol Oblander, secretary-treasurer.

Out of 119 children photographed by the Moderne Studio in their Child Portrait Contest, three were chosen by out-of-town photographers as winners, one each to each age group. Laddie Helmer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Helmer, Rt. 3, was named in the 4 to 6 year group; Diane Davis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. U.V. Davis, Rt. 2, was selected in the 2 to 4 year group, and Jimmy Jay Keazer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Keazer, Marion, led the five months to 2 year list.

The cast for "Pharaoh, King of Egypt," the all-girl opera to be presented by the Marion High School girls' glee club Oct. 20, includes the following who will have prominent roles: Donna Clair Miesse, Donna Christensen, Gladys Eitzen, Loyette Hollar, Donna Pankratz, Betty Holmes, Patsy Harris, Janice Meisner, Ernestine Good, Elizabeth Ford, Virginia Geis and Donna Hobein.
