The first shipment of new postwar automobiles arrived in Marion this week when Newcomer Motor Company received a carload consignment of new Fords. However, only one car of this initial shipment will be kept here, the other three go to dealers in Florence, Hillsboro and Herington.

Officials of the Kansas Power and Light Company were in Marion Monday obviously viewing the town as a potential customer since our light plant cannot long continue to pull the increasing demands upon it without an additional engine.

The first postwar shipment of Frigidaires arrived this week at the local Marion dealer's, the W.J. Haas Furniture and Appliance Store. Mr. Haas also has the dealership for this vicinity on Speed Queen washing machines and ironers and Philco radios and phonographs.

Mr. and Mrs. H.F.K. Mueller announce the engagement of their daughter, Agnes, to Pvt. Wilbur E. Steinert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Steinert of Tampa. No wedding date has as yet been set.

Marion board of education, after some months of anticipation, have purchased a bus formerly used by the Boeing Company at Wichita. James Meisner, president of the board, announced that the purchase price was $1650. The bus, which carries 32 passengers, will be used for athletic trips of all sorts — football, baseball and track, for music competitive meets, and band trips, and for any occasion where school children are taken out of town.

Dr. and Mrs. R.C. Smith returned Monday from a four and one-half week trip in which they drove 4,300 miles through 20 states without a flat tire to set some sort of record.
