Some confusion still seems to exist over the law recently in effect in issuing marriage licenses. A three day waiting period must elapse after application is made to wed and the time the license is issued, Probate Judge Hargett explains.

A new business in Marion, one that has been lacking for a long time, is to be opened in the near future. E.B. Haubauch has rented the small building at the corner of Second and Main, formerly occupied by the Cubby Hole Lunch, and will put in a shoe shining parlor.

Marilyn Hayen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hayen, was crowned football queen of Marion High School Just before game time Oct. 31. Her attendants were Norma Sly, Loyette Hollar, Lucy Sandwell and Mildred Meredith. Two years ago, Marilyn's sister, Virginia, was the football queen.

Four new students have enrolled for flight training at Marion Airport for the mid-autumn season.. They are Leo Scharenberg, Melvin Jewett, and Robert Ecker of Marion and Merle Dick of Durham. Gus Newlon completed his primary training Sunday, took his flight check Monday, and earned his private license after only 7 1/2 weeks training.

Junior Powell suffered two painful injuries last week. He received a severe gash on his head during physical training. It required four clamps to close the wound. Then, Friday evening, following the dance at the gym, he fell over a rod, placed as a Halloween prank, received cuts and bruises on his face and knocked several front teeth loose.

James W. Harrison, who helped build the Aulne community and the county, died at his home in Peabody Sunday at the age of 83. Harrison, who helped break the prairie sod with an oxen yoke in the early days, was a leader in church and community.

The Kirchner Drug Store has added a fine new display fixture. It is a special refrigerated candy display unit, one of the first in the state, and adds much to the attractive interior of the store.

Miss Nancy Colburn of Marion was elected Homecoming Queen to reign over the homecoming festivities at the College of Emporia last weekend. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Braden Johnston
