Marion Municipal Airport is now the official name of the newly acquired field two miles east and one-half mile south of Marion. The city commission adopted this name Monday evening and immediately started consideration of plans to get the field into active operation.

Three new businesses announce their opening in Marion this week. They are the Marion Furniture Exchange, the Klassen Mattress Factory, and the Del Mar Coffee Shop.

The building owned by Raleigh Bowlby on the south side of Marion in the 200 block, was purchased this week by Alex Case. Mr. Case states that the building has been leased to the Firestone Appliance and Home Supply company for a period of five years.

The Board of Education is considering a progressive step to begin in January 1946 in the school system in Marion. The board is considering moving grades 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 to the Hill school and grades 6, 7, and 8 to Brown Corby. Under this move one first grade teacher would be free and would be placed in charge of kindergarten for children from five to seven years of age who had not entered the first grade.

Mrs. Hazel M. Smith, the former Hazel Conyers, of Wichita, assumed the duties of superintendent of the Marion hospital beginning October 1. She replaces Mrs. Frances Parham, who resigned to be with her husband who is en route home from overseas.

Miss Ann Burkholder was guest of honor at a birthday dinner Monday evening at the home of Miss Patsy Harris. Guests were Ann, Cherridah Mullikin, Loyette Hollar, Betty Williams and Dawna Summervill. Ann entertained the girls at a line party to the show following the dinner.
