The people of Marion County will donate and ship a carload or more of wheat on the Friendship Train which is now en route across the nation picking up carloads of food to be shipped to the hungry of Europe. The train is a nationwide effort to collect voluntary food gifts from the American people for starving men, women and children in Western Europe. Most of the food is slated for France and Italy. Some will go to Germany and Norway.

Taking advantage of the material being removed from the Municipal Plant where a new base is to be installed under a new engine, a fill is being made in the gully just beyond the O.J. Allen property at the end of Elm Street. Also a considerable amount of earth which must be removed from the streets being curbed, guttered, and surfaced in the northeast section of town will be dumped there. The result will be that the Elm Street dead end will be eliminated by opening Hudson Street all the way through. The improvement will make some choice sites available for residences.

Edward W. Colburn of Marion was one of seven University of Kansas men who have been nominated as candidates for Rhodes Scholarship, a distinct honor. Winslow is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Braden Johnston.

Five generations of one family pictured on the front page include Mrs. Mary Childs, her daughter Mrs. Fred Suffield, her granddaughter Mrs. Robert Stack, her great-grandson Jack Summerville, and Jack's son John Robert, her great-great-grandson.

The first all-welded bridge in Kansas is now under contract. This bridge will be over the Cottonwood River in Marion County on a highway relocation three miles northwest of Florence.

Mrs. Paul Keazer entertained the following guests at dinner Sunday evening to celebrated the fifteenth birthday of her daughter Joyce: June Avery, Vicki Barrett, Patricia Hett, Loretta Conyers, Donna Miesse, Norma Sly and Virginia Wright.

Mack Hardware this month is observing the 10th anniversary of business in Marion. Throughout this time the business has been managed by Ed Beu, assisted by Mrs. Beu. The store is a fine asset to the community and the Beu family have contributed much to community life during their residence here.
