Mrs. Lysle Russell honored her daughter, Jeannette, with a party Jan. 4 in celebration of her birthday. Those invited included Jeannette's teacher Miss Ruth Jo Willming, Carmen Siebert, Judy Coons, Nancy Keazer, Kay Navrat, Mayme Swehla, Connie Sue Long, Helen Farmer, Betty Ford, Billie Herbert, Karen Becker, Marjie Ann Bernhardt, Carolyn Merrill, Linda Johnson, Twila Sherrard, and Lenore Wheeler.

August Junior Hett arrived home Jan. 3 after serving 15 months in the Philippines where he took part in four invasions and spent the past three months in China. He received his separation from the Navy at Norman, Okla.

Mrs. Howard Ford surprised her daughter, Juanita Jo, with a dinner party Jan. 3 in celebration of her birthday. Places at dinner were marked for Juanita Jo, Sarabel Wolf, Patricia Henry, Mary Margaret Hannaford, Milly Lou Matthews, and Peggy Weibert.

Four cases of whooping cough have been reported to Dr. O.C. McCandless, county health director. No further cases of scarlet fever have been reported in the county. Two cases of recurrent malaria in returned veterans have been treated of late by physicians in the county, Dr. McCandless is advised.

The marriage of Miss Alice Marie Mueller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.K.F. Mueller, to Mr. Edwin Winter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Winter of Hillsboro, took place Christmas evening at the North Tampa Lutheran church with Pastor Martin Pullman of Durham reading the double ring ceremony.

Mrs. Albert Bernhardt has been employed to complete the year as teacher of English in the junior high school in place of Miss Elizabeth Richards who resigned at the Christmas holidays.
