Several courthouse personnel are in Topeka this week attending the meeting of the Kansas Official Council which meets November 20, 21, and 22. Among those who went are Mrs. Joe Childs from the Clerk of the Court's office; J.K Warkentin, County Clerk; Helen Seifert from the County Treasurer's office; J.H. Franzen, County Superintendent and Neva Heiser his deputy; and Lysle Russell from the County Engineer's office.

Among those from Marion who went to Wichita last Wednesday evening to hear Lily Pons sing were Mr. and Mrs. Harry Propp and family, Miss Marjorie King and Miss Edna Rupp.

Case & Son announces the winners of their 27th annual Fire Prevention composition contest which was conducted in the Marion High and Junior High schools during Fire Prevention Week. High school winners were as follows: First place, LaVerna Knight, $5; second, Frances Schlotthauer, $2.50; third, William Zeller, $1. Honorable mention was given to Margery Ann Ewert, Phyllis Beu, Georgia Christensen, Harvey Hein, and Janice Socolofsky. Junior high winners were: Eighth grade, Donna Hobein, $2; Seventh grade, Bill Carpenter, $2; Sixth grade, Carol Creek, $2. Honorable mention went to Lois Kelsey, Madeline Penland, Catherine Popp, Max Merrill, Janet Meisner, and Edna Grimes.

The Marion telephone girls, Winifred Meierhoff, serving as chairman, have just completed an afghan of wool for the Red Cross. Others assisting included Irene Mohn, Dorothy Melcher, Neva Fruechting, Marie Dixon, and Lillie Keazer.

Members of the Junior Athena Club enjoyed a "Plymouth Rock" party Monday evening for their annual Thanksgiving dinner. The cocktail was served in the home of Mrs. Gail Merrill, the salad with Mrs. August Junior Hett, the main course at the Green Parrot, and the dessert at the Ray Longhofer home, and for the conclusion, they "landed" at the home of Mrs. Homer Miesse with Mrs. Wayne Varenhorst acting as hostess.
