Pictured on the front page is one side of a room in the Marion home of the Juan Martinez family on Santa Fe Street. Decorated in the traditional custom of Old Mexico, the room is filled with religious figures combined with tinsel, streamers, wreaths, and other Christmas decorations. The work of decorating this exceptional room is done by Mrs. Martinez's mother, Senora Moreno, who carefully keeps the figures and decorations from year to year.
Children of the Marion trade community will be treated to a free picture show again Saturday afternoon. Arrangements have been made with Santa Claus to come to Marion immediately after the show. He will parade the length of Main Street and will then disperse bags of candy to all his little friends.
Norma Jean Amick, daughter of Robert Amick, Marion, a sophomore at Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa, was the student soprano soloist featured in the Oratorio Society's presentation of Handel' "Messiah" Dec. 14.
Another new business building to be completed and opened recently on the hill is the Maggard Auto Body Shop, located on the highway at the east edge of town. The firm specializes in auto body repair, automobile painting, car upholstery, and glass installation.
Darlene Richmond was honored at a birthday surprise party at the home of Miss Phyllis Suffield Monday evening. Invited guests were Darlene, Dolores Razor, Wanda Ireland, Shirley Collett, Nancy Allen, Lou Jean Nienstedt, Madora Ann Richmond, Mrs. John Mehl, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Richmond and Delton, Mrs. Bert Richmond, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Richmond and family, and Miss Dorothy Richmond who arranged the party.
Donald Buethe is installing a lovely set of door chimes in the Lutheran parsonage at Lincolnville today (Monday), a Christmas gift from the Buethe family.
Miss Wanda Hannaford and Miss Mary Louise Tibbetts, students at Colorado Women's College, Denver, are expected home Friday to spend the holidays with their parents.
