Last Saturday's drawing for three giant turkeys gave big turkeys to Verlin Gene Meier, Virginia Wright, and Mrs. Sylvia Schlotz. An unusual angle was that young Meier was chosen to pull the names from the drum and quite by chance drew his own.

A two inch rain Wednesday night put the streams up and brought an abrupt end to the pleasant temperatures in the 60s which had delighted Kansans for the past two weeks. The thermometer plummeted and snow is forecast for tonight.

Two couples, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Harrison, now of Peabody, and Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Pierce, have reached milestones in their lives seldom achieved. The Harrisons celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Sunday; the Pierces reached their 58th year together on Tuesday.

Dr. R.R. Melton was appointed mayor of Marion Monday night by the other two members of the city commission, Albert Williams, commissioner of streets and utilities, and George Miser, commissioner of finance.. The appointment fills the mayorship left vacant by the resignation of John W. Gardner.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Knackstedt announce the marriage of their daughter, Betty JoAnn Knackstedt, to Alden Slusser, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Slusser, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church, Wichita, Dec. 8.

Mrs. Willard Conyers invited a number of little folks to a party Dec. 3 to celebrate her daughter Carol Sue's fifth birthday. Those invited were Mary Ann and Timmy Williams, Gaila and Donna June Jost, Bill Good, Robert Morse, Keith Conyers, Bob and Annabelle Bass, Mary Sue Reh, Colleen Allen, Mary Lou Conyers, Sheryl and Karen Becker and Wilma Conyers.

Lt. Ed Wheeler, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Wheeler, flew home from Chicago last Wednesday after 11 months in Austria, and is now on terminal leave. Throughout his stay in Austria he was quartered not far from Lentz. The only one he saw from home all that time was Ralph Dunn whom he ran into while entering a theatre at Lentz.

From the Pilsen news — There is another victim of an appendectomy in the Pilsen community. Kenny, the little son of Mr. and Mrs. George Vinduska, was rushed to St. Francis Hospital early Sunday to undergo an operation. He is the sixth on the list in that case. Miss Patsy Meysing is getting along well and Mrs. John Reznicek was able to come home Saturday.
