Mr. and Mrs. David E. Beisel of Ramona were informed by telegram January 30 that their son, Allen Neil Beisel, seaman second class, a member of the crew of the USS Shaula, died Jan. 24 at Leyte, as a result of head injuries received when he lost his footing and fell from the topmost part of the ship into the ship's hold. He received the best care possible by doctors were unable to save his life.

The re-establishment of a photographic studio in Marion is announced by Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Broadstreet, who are opening their business in their new quarters above the Marion Pharmacy Feb. 16 under the name of Moderne Studio.

Dave Weibert, who has been living on the Anna Seifert place near Durham, this week purchased the West Side Camp from Fred Knackstedt and will take possession March 1. Mr. Knackstedt has operated the station and camp for the past 10 years. His future plans are indefinite, he said today.

Wednesday, Feb. 13, will ever be a red letter date in the life of Jean Tollman Bailey for on that day she arrived in Marion from far off England to join her husband, Robert Bailey, whom she had not seen for more than eight months. S/Sgt. Bailey was stationed at Bassingbourne, England. The two met at a dance and seven months later, in May 1945, the couple were married.

The Kirchner Drug Store and Conyers' Grocery have brightened the interior of their stores the past week with attractive new paint jobs.

Mrs. Lynn Christensen entertained a number of little folks at a birthday party Saturday afternoon, Feb. 9, in celebration of Jimmie's birthday. Those invited were Carolyn Susdorf, Marjie Ann Bernhardt, Larry and Gary Knackstedt, Donna, Marion, Gerald and Ronald Kelsey, Carlita and Bobby Bass, Bill Good and Ralph Janzen.

The local city basketball team has been invited to enter the Gateway Basketball Tournament in Wichita starting Feb. 19, reports manager Arnold Schwemmer. The present squad is made up of Doug Herbert, Gene Knackstedt, Lawrence Burnett, Kenneth Nelson, Cecil Post, Bob Edmunds, Bob Bailey, Mike Lee, Bob Ecker, Junior Province and Arnold Schwemmer.
