A sweeping elementary school reorganization bill passed the Kansas House of Representatives Wednesday. If the bill becomes a law, state aid will be forthcoming to elementary schools with ten pupils or more. Districts with less than ten pupils will be reorganized into larger districts, and school tax will be spread more equitably.

George Helmer this week purchased the Brooks Grocery and Filling Station from Mrs. Ruby Greenemeyer who has conducted the business since the death of her father, S.J. Brooks. Mr. Helmer will take over the business at the intersection of Cedar and Highway 77 April 1.

Memorial services for Sgt. Orville H. Poppe, who was killed in action in Germany Nov. 21, 1944, will be held at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lincolnville Sunday, March 4, at 2:30 p.m.

Miss Virginia Hobson was surprised with a birthday dinner Sunday honoring her eighteenth birthday. Places were marked for the following: Betty Frazier, Marjorie Frazier, Cleo Kline, Gerry Shields, Joan Kelsey, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Slifer and Mr. and Mrs. Lionel Hobson, Dolores and Virginia.

Corrine Pierce was among students selected for a part in the dramatization of the eightieth anniversary of the founding of Emporia State Teachers College presented last week.

Betty Williams was guest of honor at a dinner party Friday evening celebrating her fifteenth birthday. Places were marked for the following: Loyette Hollar, Patsy Harris, Ann Burkholder, Marilyn Hayen, Shirley Collett, Donna Powell, Vivian Klein, Mary Burnett, Naomi McIntosh and Cherridah Mullikin.
