A telegram Friday from the War Department officially ended the uncertainty of the family of S/Sgt. William H. Fulkerson, previously declared missing in action since November 26. The telegram stated that S/Sgt. Fulkerson was killed in action over Germany on that date.

Fifty entries of registered Hereford cattle have been received from breeders over the county for the fifth annual Hereford Show to be held Saturday at the Chamber of Commerce farm show and sales lot on north First Street.

In a record vote, cast on a cold, rainy Tuesday, the electorate in Marion put its strong stamp of approval on the three propositions submitted to them for decision.

Cpl. Leo Scharenberg, a prisoner of war of the Germans since August 30, 1944, has been released according to a telegram from the War Department received today by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Scharenberg.

Lanman Jewelry Store, located at 210 W. Main, is the most recent addition to the rapidly growing list of new businesses to open in Marion.

Tommy Shields and Jim Coffin celebrated their birthdays at Jim's with a party Tuesday. Tommy's birthday was April 2 and Jim's was April 3. Those present were Harold Lloyd Shields, James Propp, and Wilbur and Archie Smith. Games were played and delicious refreshments were served. The party was also in celebration of Mary Coffin's birthday which was April 2.

Those home from college for the Easter vacation were Nancy Colburn, Mary Alice and Anna Belle Rees, Corrine Pierce, Mrs. Lawrence Norvell of Emporia and Thelma Pierce of Manhattan.
