Formal opening of the Tate Brothers store, formerly the Holt Paint and Wallpaper Store, is announced for this Saturday, May 11. The store will carry complete lines of three well-known brands of paints, wallpaper, glass and home decorating supplies.

Clee J. Ford and his son, Leslie L. Ford, have taken over the operation of the Cities Service Station at 147 W. Main Street, it is announced this week.

Archie Marler has purchased the Cozy Café from Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hansen and has closed it for remodeling and redecoration. He hopes to re-open in the next few days. The cafe will operate under its new name, the Dinette.

The stormy period beginning Sunday with a very strong wind and ending Wednesday with intermittent showers brought only .22 inch rainfall. Although not as much as hoped for, the rain was a big help to gardens and fields.

Alex Socolofsky was appointed janitor of the courthouse by the Board of County Commissioners effective May 1. He replaces Will Powell who has been janitor at the courthouse for more than 20 years and is forced by ill health to resign his work.

PFC James M. Loney surprised his family last week when he arrived unannounced Wednesday from San Diego where he landed after a 17-day trip on a Liberty Ship straight through from Japan. He is due for discharge on July 1, having completed four years service with the Marine Corps.

In Marion County 19 retired workers, aged 65 or older, receive $403.65 in monthly Social Security payments, nine wives of retired workers, 65 or older, receive $92.24; 13 children, under 18 years of age, $150.55; two widows, 65 or older, of workers, $37.95; and five widows with unmarried children under 18, $93.27. This represents over $750 per month or more than $9,000 per year, being paid to people of Marion County through the Old-Age and Survivor Insurance program.

Al Kirchner is a much envied man of late. Last week he received delivery from Newcomer Motor Company of a fine super deluxe 4-door black Ford sedan.
