The skies over this vicinity finally gave way early Monday morning with 1.03 inches of wonderful rain. The skies remained overcast and the temperature cool. Another .02 fell Wednesday morning and .05 on Thursday. Reports from farm areas indicate bottom corn grown from hybrid seed still will make a good crop. Sorghums are hurt but still can make a nice yield. Alfalfa fields and pastures benefited greatly.

Mr. and Mrs. Art Schlehuber, after a trip to see their daughter, Carol, 12, hospitalized there with polio, report her to be making satisfactory. Progress. Carol was stricken last Wednesday with a spinal type of infection.

Wencelaus Vlk, 15, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vlk who live four miles north of Marion, lost a hand in an accident on the Leslie Yeagley farm last Tuesday. In some fashion his hand was caught in a cement mixer. The boy was taken to St. Francis Hospital for treatment.

An all-star team made up of players from the various softball teams in and around Marion has been entered in the McPherson district softball tournament. Players from Marion include Art Mueller, Irvin Janzen, Tip McFadden, Woody Steinert, Arnold Schwemmer, Shorty Conyers, Junior Ehrlich, Leo Costello, George Janzen, Gene Costello, Don Hollar, Herb Winter, Ted Bernhardt, Barney McCarty and Ralph Johnston.

Keith Kelsey, who returned last week from the Navy, was complimented at a family picnic at the Marion park Sunday, August 11.

Most mothers are getting their youngsters ready for school which is only a few weeks off. Shopping is no easy matter. Clothes are plenty high and prices are being raised. The mothers with girls have an advantage, for very pretty dresses can be made of feed sacks; but how would the boys look with feed sack trousers?

A new item, full-cream pasteurized cottage cheese, has been added to the list of dairy products being manufactured and marketed by the Marion Creamery.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mathiot announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Lois Lorraine, to Alfred A. Chill Jr. of Junction City, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Chill of Marion. The wedding will take place September 8 at the Marion Methodist church.

The Marion High School graduating class of 1935 is planning a picnic for Sunday noon, August 18, at the Waterworks Park.
