A hard-fighting, but inexperienced Marion High School football squad lost the opening game of their 1946 schedule Friday night, bowing to Moundridge, 12-13. The game, played under the lights of the new field east of town to an apparently record crowd, was hard-fought from beginning to end, with the heavier, more experienced team from Moundridge having the edge most of the way.

A long hoped for addition to Marion is about to be realized. Orville Miesse is preparing facilities for a community sales pavilion. Mr. Miesse last week had a building moved in from southeast of Lincolnville to a location south of the Rock Island stockyard. He is remodeling the building, will build a stock yard in connection with the sales barn and will use the Rock Island yards.

Mary Helen Hayes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hayes of Wichita, became the bride of Dorman Becker, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.M. Becker, of Durham, at the Hillside Christina Church in Wichita Sept. 12 at eight o'clock in the evening.

Representatives of the 4-H clubs in Marion County entered at the state fair at Hutchinson brought honor to themselves and their clubs. Glenda Koch of Florence won first place on her garden exhibit. Kenneth Conyers, Marion, won second place in the contest for the best groomed boy. Marilyn Hayen took third place as best dressed girl.

Miss Leona Loney, whose marriage to James Loney occurred Monday, was guest of honor Sept. 16 at a miscellaneous shower at the Pete Klein home with Miss Vivian Klein as hostess.

Eight men checked in at the Selective Service office this week after having been relieved from military service. They are: Robert Edward Carr, Peabody; Junior Wayne Pruitt, Walter Eugene Pinon, Florence; Edward Dean Frobenius, Lincolnville; Glen Wayne Barb, Lost Springs; Harold Jacob Wiebe, Peter Penner and Irvin George Neufeld, Hillsboro.

Members of the Baptist Tabernacle, under the general chairmanship of Albert Just, are beginning a new building on their holdings on South Third. It will be of cement and steel construction similar to the McDaris building.

John R. Wheeler took a first in a saddle horse show at Wichita Sunday. His horse, Chief, was the best jumper at the show.

It was announced this week that the Paul Seifert Motor Company has been appointed Marion County distributors for the war-famous "Quonset" type buildings.
