Marion High School's annual Queen of Courts celebration takes place this week.

Throughout the week, high school students are given the opportunity to show school spirit by participating in several on-campus activities.

Activities include spirit week, where students are encouraged to wear their pajamas, show off their favorite sports team, and venture back a few decades and dress like the 1980s.

"Beating of the Dummy," an annual pep rally where a Lyons jersey will be put on a dummy and students will have the opportunity to take swings at it, will take place Thursday evening. Cheerleaders have prepared candidate games that also will take place Thursday evening.

Friday evening, the king and queen will be crowned during the coronation ceremony between the girls' and boys' varsity games around 8 p.m.

King candidates are Josh Kelsey, son of Randy and Kodi Kelsey; Jeffrey Richmond, son of Jeff Richmond and Janice Richmond; and Russell Ploutz, son of Stan and Verna Ploutz, all of Marion.

Queen candidates are Misti Richmond, daughter of Tim and Robin Richmond; Toni Gordon, daughter of Tod and Alice Gordon, all of Marion; and Alysha O'Dell, daughter of Bret O'Dell and Suzanne Robinson, all of Florence.

King and queen candidates were selected this past week, and students will vote again today (Wednesday) to determine Queen of Courts royalty.
