Accidents

The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:

Thad A. Holmes, 16, 213 W. Willow Glen, Hillsboro, was southbound on Indigo near 120th at 8 a.m. Sept. 28 in a 2001 Oldsmobile Silhouette van when he lost control, entered a west ditch, and struck a phone box. Passengers in the vehicle were Lane S. Holmes, 15, and Gabe W. Holmes, 11, all of the same address. There were no injuries, reported Marion County Undersheriff Randal Brazil. Damages were more than $1,000. The van was registered to Stuart and Carolyn Homes of the same address.

David S. Barchett, 35, Topeka, was driving a 1991 Chevrolet Blazer northbound on K-15 near 180th at 9:15 p.m. Sept. 29, when a black cow with an orange ear tag was on the roadway. The driver could not avoid hitting the animal. The cow belonged to Reusser Farms of Wichita. Sheriff's deputy Josh Whitwell reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Samantha J. Alvarez, 16, 120 S. Kansas, Lincolnville, was westbound on 290th near Quail Creek at 6 p.m. Oct. 2 in a 2002 Dodge Neon and going up a hill. The driver reported a red car was in her lane and coming toward her. She drove to the right to avoid the car, went out of control, and entered a south ditch. She was not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages, reported Deputy Duane McCarty. The car was registered to Rebecca Alvarez of the same address.

Krystal D. Mendez Campos, 22, 294 Vista, Burns, was eastbound on 30th near Limestone in a 2000 Ford Focus at 7:35 p.m. Oct. 2, when a deer came from a ditch and struck the driver's side of the vehicle. Estrella Mendez Campos, 1, of the same address, was a passenger. Deputy Larry Starkey reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Carolyn B. Nieland, 59, Alamo, Texas, was westbound on U.S.-50 at milemarker 305 in a 1992 Toyota Camry at 9:40 p.m. Oct. 3, when a deer came from a north ditch and was struck by the vehicle. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages, reported Deputy Starkey.

Marc Scott Schroeder, 28, 310 N. Jefferson, Hillsboro, was backing a 1991 Honda Accord from a parking stall at Vogt's Hometown Market, 600 Western Heights Circle, Hillsboro, at noon, Oct. 4, and collided with a 1999 Toyota Camry driven by Tamara K. Flaming, 46, 1561 K-15, Hillsboro. Josh Smith, 19, 2252 170th, Marion, was a passenger in the Schroeder vehicle. Hillsboro Police Officer Chad Funk reported there were no injuries.

Jessica L. Allen, 17, 405 S. Washington, Hillsboro, was northbound on Mustang near U.S.-50 in a 1998 Ford Windstar at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 4, when a gust of wind pushed the vehicle. The driver overcorrected, entered a west ditch, crossed the roadway, entered an east ditch, and hit a culvert. The vehicle was registered to Michael Allen, 115 S. Wilson, Hillsboro. Passengers in the vehicle were Natasha A. McIrvin, 18, 555 McIrvin Dr., Lehigh, and Sherry E. Bosworth, 18, 402 W. Grand, Hillsboro. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages, reported Deputy Whitwell.

Sara L. Morey, 35, 310 S. Washington, Hillsboro, was westbound on U.S.-56 near K-15 in a 1999 four-door Toyota at 6:45 a.m. Oct. 5. A cow, owned by Norman Galle of Hillsboro, entered the roadway from a south ditch and was struck by the vehicle. Deputy Whitwell reported there were no injuries.
