Accidents

The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:

Marcel W. Benda, 73, 2020 280th, Marion, was southbound on Remington just south of 220th at 7:35 p.m. Oct. 12. A deer came from the west ditch and was struck by Benda's 1994 Buick Century. Irma Benda, 61, of the home, was a passenger in the vehicle. Deputy Larry Starkey states no one was injured.

Steven J. Tapley, 27, Lindsborg, was eastbound on U.S.-56 just east of Remington at 7:45 p.m. Oct. 9. A deer was standing in the middle of the road and Tapley was unable to avoid hitting it with his 1997 Dodge Intrepid. Tapley was not injured, reports Deputy Josh Whitwell.

Kurt C. Phillips, 18, 206 Sycamore, Peabody, was northbound on Old Mill Road just north of 90th at 3 a.m. Oct. 9. Phillips lost control on gravel of the 2004 Ford Explorer he was driving. The vehicle rolled to a stop in the east ditch, damaging a fence that is property of Clifford Hett, RR 2, Peabody. The vehicle is registered to Robert Phillips, of the home. Phillips was injured but did not require transport, states Sergeant Jeff Soyez.

Terry Lynn Unruh, 22, Galva, was eastbound on 240th just west of Bluestem at 9:32 a.m. Sept. 29. The right wheels entered the south ditch. Unruh, driving a 2002 Peterbilt, attempted to get the vehicle back on the roadway. The vehicle overturned and came to rest on its right side in the ditch. Kelly E. Koehn of Galva is the registered owner of the vehicle. Sheriff Lee Becker states Unruh was injured but did not require transport.
