Accidents

The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:

Kevin R. Hayward, 42, 419 N. Lincoln, Marion, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet 1500 pickup at 1:50 p.m. July 31, when he struck a gas meter in an alley behind his residence. Marion Police Officer Howard Kahler reported there was less than $1,000 in damages to the vehicle and meter that was owned by Atmos Energy.

Clara Ann Toews, 60, 215 S. Wilson, Hillsboro, was westbound at 6:30 a.m. Aug. 8 on 150th, east of Diamond Road, when a deer came from a north ditch onto the roadway and was struck. Toews was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Impala. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages, reported Marion County Undersheriff Randal Brazil.

Joshua P. Ryff, 18, Herington, was driving a 2003 Pontiac Bonneville westbound at 6 p.m. Aug. 5 on 360th near Vista Road when a 1997 Chevrolet pickup driven by Christopher D. Peterson, 21, Burdick, failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection. The Ryff vehicle struck the Peterson vehicle, causing the pickup to overturn. Peterson was transported by Eagle Med to Via Christi Hospital-St. Francis Campus, Wichita. James Nolan, 32, 113 S. Smith, Lost Springs, was a passenger in the Peterson vehicle and was transported by Tampa ambulance to Herington Municipal Hospital. Katie M. Blue, 16, Salina, was a passenger in the Ryff vehicle. Sheriff deputy Josh Whitwell reported Ryff and Blue were not injured.

Billy D. Rogers, 46, 250 W. 10th Street, Florence, was westbound on 60th, near Timber Road at 12:35 p.m. Aug. 7, in a 2005 Ford F-250 pickup and stopped at a stop sign. He proceeded through the intersection and did not see Robert L. Sellers, 67, 916 Turkey Creek, Florence, driving a 1988 Ford F-250 pickup enter the intersection. The front of Rogers' vehicle struck the left rear of Sellers' vehicle which spun into a ditch. Sheriff deputy Larry Starkey reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Shanea D. Montes, 19, of Wichita, was driving a 2002 Hyundai Accent passenger car at 3:20 p.m. Aug. 7 westbound on 150th, east of Wagon Wheel Road, when she lost control, entered a north ditch, and struck a tree. The driver received possible injuries, reported Undersheriff Randal Brazil. No damage estimate was listed.

Christopher Jost, 45, 211 North Ave., Lehigh, was backing from a driveway on Marion Street, Lehigh, at 10 p.m. Aug. 9, in a 1985 Chevrolet C20 van when he struck a parked vehicle, a 2001 Chevrolet 2500 pickup, owned by Scott Schultz, 308 Marion, Lehigh. Deputy Whitwell reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.
