Accidents

The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:

Norma J. Schmidt, 67, 1631 Falcon Road, Hillsboro was southbound on Indigo at 150th at 6:40 p.m. Feb. 14. She attempted a right hand turn onto 150th and hit loose gravel. Her 1998 Ford Taurus slid into the southwest ditch. Schmidt was taken by Hillsboro Ambulance to Hillsboro Community Medical Center, reports Deputy Josh Whitwell.

Robert Laney Kuhn, 55, Haysville, was northbound on Indigo just north of U.S.-50 at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 10. Two deer ran in front of his 1991 Buick Park Avenue. Kuhn's vehicle struck one deer. Emogene R. Kuhn, 71, of the home, was a passenger in the vehicle. Investigating Officer David V. Huntley reports there were no injuries.

Nicholas R. Novak, 27, Bakersfield, Calif., was northbound on Kanza just north of 210th at 3:30 a.m. Feb. 20. A deer came from the east ditch and was struck by Novak's 2005 Ford Explorer, registered to Kelly K. Novak of Tampa. Deputy Duane McCarty states Novak was not injured.

Dawn M. Buchanan, 40, 331 South First Street, Marion, was backing from a curb on Denver Street at 8:10 a.m. Feb. 16, when it struck a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Alice V. Gordon, 41, 1748 Upland, Marion. Buchanan, driving a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix, didn't see the Gordon vehicle that was westbound behind her. Whitney D. Gordon, 11, of the home was a passenger in the Tahoe. Marion Police Lieutenant Dean Keyes reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Mary M. Magathan, 61, Rt. 1, Box 20, Cedar Point, was northbound on U.S.-77 just south of U.S.-50 at 7 p.m. Feb. 24. A deer came from the west ditch and was struck by Magathan's 2001 Cadillac DeVille. Undersheriff Randal Brazil states she was not injured.

Peter Schmidt Jr., 86, Lehigh, was eastbound on U.S.-56 at 2:24 p.m. Feb. 21 and slowed down to make a right turn on Elm Street, Hillsboro. Schmidt, driving a 1989 Buick Century, turned too late and struck a stop sign in the southeast ditch. The sign was owned by Kansas Department of Transportation. Neither the driver or a passenger, Hilda Schmidt, 84, of the home, were injured, reported Hillsboro Police Officer David Funk, and less than $1,000 in damages.
