Accidents

The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:

Catherine Marie Brewer, 49, 1229 West 19th, Hutchinson, was westbound on U.S.-50 at 7:45 p.m. March 20. A deer entered the roadway from the south ditch and was struck by Brewer's 2000 Chevrolet Corvette. Deputy Josh Whitwell states Brewer was not injured.

Katy L. Terman, 24, 506 South Wilson, Hillsboro, was southbound on Indigo just north of 160th at 8:10 p.m. March 30. Terman, driving a 1996 Saturn, swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway and struck a guardrail. Terman was not injured, reports Deputy Larry Starkey.

Marcia C. Jacobs, 38, Hesston, was eastbound on U.S.-50 when a deer entered the roadway and was struck by Jacob's 2000 Ford. The vehicle is registered to Hesston USD #460, Hesston. Passengers in the vehicle were Brett Tieszen, 18, Halstead; Amanda McCloud, 18, Newton; and Katelyn Lamb, 17, Kendra Alison, 18, Tanee VanPelt, 17, and Leah Rose, 18, all of Hesston. Deputy Mike Vineski states no one was injured.

Francis D. Smith, 41, Junction City, was eastbound on U.S.-50 just west of Wagon Wheel at noon March 28. Smith, driving a 2001 Kenwood, became ill, lost control of the vehicle, crossed the center, and entered the north ditch. The vehicle, registered to Barlow Truck Line, Faucett, Mo., hit a culvert pipe, crossed a driveway, and came to rest in the north ditch. Deputy Vineski states Smith was taken by Florence Ambulance to St. Luke Hospital, Marion.

Milton Wayne Unruh, 45, Galva, was stopped on U.S.-50 just west of Nighthawk at a stoplight at 11:15 a.m. March 25. Rodney Boos, 38, Russell, was traveling west on U.S.-50 and failed to stop. Boos' 1994 Freightliner rear ended Unruh's 1998 GMC pickup. Boos' vehicle is registered to A&G Cartage, Conway Springs. Deputy Whitwell states there were no injuries.

Walter L. Hanna Jr., 79, McPherson, was eastbound on U.S.-56 just east of Alamo Road at 6:55 a.m. March 31. A deer entered the roadway from the south ditch. Hanna, driving a 1997 Buick LaSabre, was unable to avoid hitting the deer. Ida Mae Hanna, 78, of the home was a passenger in the vehicle. No one was injured, reports Deputy Rollin Schmidt.
