Accidents

The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:

Amy L. Weir, 19, Manhattan was southbound on K-15 just north of 100th at 9:40 p.m. June 1 when a deer came from the west ditch and was struck by Weir's 2000 Volkswagen. The vehicle is registered to Rhona L. Romick, Manhattan. Deputy Larry Starkey states she was not injured.

Russell S. Ploutz, 17, 705 South Freeborn, Marion, was westbound on 120th just east of Sunflower at 10:15 p.m. May 25. David B. DeForest, 17, 1262 Wagonwheel, Florence, also was westbound. DeForest turned his 1999 Ford Ranger into a field entrance to turn around and was struck by Ploutz's 1998 Dodge Stratus. The Ploutz vehicle is registered to Stanley W. Ploutz, of the home. DeForest's vehicle is registered to Charles B. DeForest, of the home. Passengers in the Ploutz vehicle were Alysha O'Dell, 17, 506 Park Avenue, Florence and Randi McCarrty, 17, 408 West 8th, Florence. Passenger in the DeForest vehicle was Brandon Watson, 17, 801 Ash, Marion. Randi McCarty was injured and taken by personal vehicle to St. Luke Hospital, Marion. No other injuries were reported, states Deputy Starkey.

Leslie W. Brunner, 74, Wichita, was northbound on Quail Creek just north of 340th at 2:27 p.m. May 29. Brunner became distracted and lost control, entered the east ditch, then crossed center and entered the west ditch and overturned. Bob Brady, 69, 506 East 1st, Ramona, was a witness to the incident. Brunner, driving a 1993 Chevrolet Astro van, was taken by Marion County EMS (Tampa) to Herington Municipal Hospital, reports Deputy Mike Vineski.

Andrew P. Donahue, 17, 2461 Clover, Lincolnville was stopped on 230th just east of Pawnee at 12:09 p.m. May 29. Ashley A. Griffith, 17, 2050 South 2800 Road, Burdick, driving a 1998 Dodge Neon, struck the rear of Donahue's 1999 Dodge pickup. Jenna K. Beneke, 17, 2870 U.S.-56, Lincolnville, did not see the stopped vehicle and struck Griffith's vehicle pushing it again into Donahue's vehicle. Beneke was driving a 1996 Ford Ranger, registered to George O. Bloom II, of the home. Donahue's vehicle is registered to Timothy P. Donahue, of the home. Griffith's vehicle is registered to Greg Wyatt, of the home. Joshua A. Olsen, 17, and Ryan S. Olsen, 14, both of 101 Lombard, Lincolnville, were passengers in the Donahue vehicle. Katie L. Carlson, 17, 2842 DD Avenue, Burdick, was a passenger in the Griffith vehicle, and Victoria E. Engler, 17, 115 Reed, Burdick, was a passenger in the Beneke vehicle. There were no injuries, reports Deputy Vineski.

Evan R. Landis, 22, 222 East Thornton, Moundridge, was rounding a curve on 190th just east of Goldenrod at 12:50 p.m. May 29. Landis lost control on loose gravel and entered the south ditch. Landis was driving a 1986 Harley Davidson. He was taken by Marion County EMS (Hillsboro) to Hillsboro Community Medical Center, reports Deputy Vineski.

Naoma M. Coe, 16, 235 East 7th, Florence, was southbound on 149th just south of U.S.-77 at 8:48 p.m. May 25. Coe lost control in loose gravel and went into a ditch, hit a sign, and rolled over. Coe's 1979 Chevrolet pickup is registered to Bobby D. Coe, Pryor, Okla. Deputy Starkey states Coe was not transported.

Alan R. Seeney, 62, Whitewater, was westbound on U.S.-50 at Pawnee at 8 p.m. June 5. A deer entered the roadway from the north ditch and was struck by Seeney's 1993 Toyota pickup. Deputy Josh Whitwell states Seeney was not injured.

Tamara K. Klenda, 42, 1677 300th, Lincolnville, was westbound on 290th just east of Nighthawk at 9:05 p.m. May 27. A deer came from the west ditch and was struck by Klenda's 1994 Chrysler. She was not injured, reports Sergeant Jeff Soyez.

Sarah Castlebury, 21, Newton, was southbound on Sunflower just north of 170th at 11:30 p.m. June 3. Castlebury's 1996 Dodge Caravan struck water crossing the roadway which pushed the vehicle into the west ditch. Passengers in the vehicle were Justin G. Widell, 20, 107 West Third, Florence, Rod LeShure, 19, 317 South Lincoln, Marion, Amanda Crooks, 18, 516 South Third, Marion, Rick LeShure, 20, 317 South Lincoln, Marion, and Shayla Steele, 17, Remington Road, Marion. No one was injured, reports Undersheriff Randal Brazil.

Jeffery Harper, 38, 215 South Roosevelt, Marion, was southbound on 211th at 6:20 p.m. June 4. Donna Lee, 74, Hollister, Mo., was westbound attempting to make a left hand turn to go south. Lee, driving a 1988 GMC pickup, failed to see Harper's 2001 GMC pickup and struck the driver's side door. Amy Pippin, 30, 1022 Welch, Marion, and Bryan Harper 32, 107 West 8th, Florence, were passengers in the Harper vehicle. June Dwier, 68, Tulsa, Okla., and Daphene Lee, 67, Salina, were passengers in the Lee vehicle. There were no injures, reports Deputy Whitwell.

Clinton Jackson Hill, 23, 610 East 1st, Hillsboro, was northbound on Kanza Road just north of 210th at 12:15 a.m. May 29. Hill, driving a 1998 Oldsmobile, entered the west ditch and rolled at least one time. The vehicle is registered to Sara Hill, of the home. Hill was taken by Marion County EMS (Hillsboro) to HCMC, reports Deputy Whitwell.
