Accidents reported

The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:

Amy M. Rose, 39, 205 Kansas, Lincolnville, was westbound on Main Street near Thorp, Marion, in a 1993 Mercury Sable at 7:30 a.m. Dec. 6, when her vehicle collided with a 1999 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Daniel L. Drake, 33, Flint, Mich. The pickup was stopped in traffic, waiting to make a left turn. Passengers in the pickup were Earnie Eagle, 31, and Jermey Modine, 28, both of Columbia, Tenn. The pickup was registered to Arne Bye of Columbia, Tenn. Marion Police Officer Howard Kahler reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Matthew L. Druse, 21, 314 N. Third, Marion, was northbound on U.S.-77 near U.S.-56 in a 1999 Dodge R-15 pickup at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 7, and Mark K. McQuerary, 43, Russell Springs, Ky., was eastbound on U.S.-56 in a 2000 Westar truck. McQuerary stopped at the stop sign but did not yield to Druse who had the right-of-way which caused Druse to strike the trailer of the McQuerary vehicle. The Dodge was registered to Don and Karen Druse, 809 Weldon, Marion. The truck was registered to Billy T. Cundiff, Russell Springs, Ky. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages, reported Marion County Sheriff Deputy Matt Vogt.

Theodore J. Turk, 16, 918 E. Denver St., Marion, was southbound on North Fourth Street near Weldon, Marion, in a 2005 Dodge F-150 pickup at 5:20 p.m. Dec. 8, when the vehicle slid on ice and ran into a telephone pole. The vehicle was registered to Bradley W. Turk of the same address. There were no injuries and less than $1,000 in damages, reported Marion Police Chief Josh Whitwell.

Kevin L. Tidwell, 17, 211 S. Adams, Hillsboro, was parked on a pile of snow, facing northwest, in the Hillsboro High School parking lot at 500 E. Grand, Hillsboro, in a 1991 Ford F-250 pickup at 12:20 p.m. Dec. 18, when he tried to drive over the pile of snow and slid backward into a 1994 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup owned by Tim Goossen, 2172 Falcon, Hillsboro. Hillsboro Police Officer David Funk reported there were no injuries and less than $1,000 in damages.

Jane E. Vajnar, 68, 501 N. Lincoln, Tampa, was stopped, facing west, on Grand at the intersection of Grand and Ash streets, Hillsboro, in a 1996 Chevrolet Lumina at 4:49 p.m. Dec. 18, and made a left turn on Ash Street, striking a 2002 Mercury Sable driven by Edith A. Darting, 62, 320 N. Birch, Hillsboro. John Darting, 69, of the same address, was a passenger. Officer Funk reported there were no injuries and less than $1,000 in damages.

Jacob E. Polgin, 23, Wichita, was northbound on Indigo Road near 140th in a 2003 Dodge Caravan at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 18, when a deer came from an east ditch and was struck. The van was registered to Wichita Collegiate School, Wichita. The driver was not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages, reported Deputy Vogt.

Carl W. Peek, 38, Portland, Ore., was northbound on Old Mill Road near 60th in a 2007 Toyota Avalon at 10:47 p.m. Dec. 19, when he lost control at a low water bridge and struck an embankment. The vehicle was registered to Hertz Vehicles of Nashville, Tenn. Marion County Undersheriff Randal Brazil reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Viola Baker Suderman, 92, 204 S. Eisenhower, Hillsboro, was westbound on A Street near Kennedy in a 1984 Chevrolet Celebrity at 3:40 p.m. Dec. 21, when her vehicle was struck by a 1995 Pontiac Bonneville driven by Reyes D. Martinez, 35, McPherson, as Martinez made a right turn from the circle drive at Hillsboro Elementary School and onto A Street. The vehicle was registered to Paula J. and Marlos Martinez of the same address as Reyes Martinez. Anika A. Chapman, 10, and Zaida Z. Chapman, 8, both of 116 S. Date, Hillsboro, were passengers in the Martinez vehicle. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages, reported Officer Funk.

Joseph W. Mish, 59, 2822 Nighthawk Road, Tampa, was southbound near 210th in a 2001 Dodge pickup at 7:06 p.m. Dec. 21, when a deer came from an east ditch and was struck. Linda Mish, 58, of the same address, was a passenger. Deputy Matt Vogt reported the truck occupants were not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages.

Christine E. Zumbrunn, 37, Emporia, was westbound on U.S.-56 near Old Mill Road in a 1993 Lincoln passenger car at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 22. Jeremiah L. Albin, 27, Newton, was traveling south on Old Mill Road in a 1995 Chevrolet pickup and was unable to see the intersection due to blizzard conditions and pulled in front of the Lincoln which caused a collision. Fred Zumbrunn, 34, of the same address, was a passenger in the car and Dave Phillips, 44, Newton, was a passenger in the pickup. The pickup was registered to Bill Budde of Newton. Deputy Philpott reported Fred Zumbrunn was injured and Christine Zumbrunn had possible injuries. Both were transported by Marion EMS to St. Luke Hospital, Marion. No damage estimate was indicated on the report.

Mark D. Bishop, 50, 604 Main, Florence, was southbound on Main Street near Fifth Street, Florence, in a 1996 Plymouth Voyager van at 7:45 a.m. Dec. 24, when a 2004 Jeep Wrangler, driven by Frankie L. Cook Jr., 40, 613 Main, Florence, stopped in the roadway and backed into the van. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages, reported Deputy McCarty.

Kathleen A. Decker, 66, 110 N. Adams, Hillsboro, was southbound on Ash Street near U.S.-56, Hillsboro, in a 1998 Lincoln passenger car at 10:40 a.m. Dec. 28, when her vehicle slid on the snow packed street, entered an east ditch, and struck a utility pole. Canden Flaming, 7, of the same address, was a passenger. Hillsboro Assistant Police Chief Jessey Hiebert reported there no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Kathleen L. Magathan, 38, 954 170th, Hillsboro, was southbound on Indigo Road and attempting to turn west on 170th Road in a 2003 Dodge Durango at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 28, when the vehicle slid into a ditch because of ice on the roadway and broke a stop sign post. The driver was not injured and there was less than $1,000 in damages, reported Deputy McCarty.

Yvonne M. Smith, 61, Phoenix, Ariz., was eastbound on 290th Road near Pawnee in a 2007 Chevrolet passenger car at 6:40 p.m. Dec. 28, when a deer came from a north ditch and was struck. Passengers were Weldon Deines, 65, and Rosemary Deines, 60, both of Herington, and Arthur Smith, 59, of the same address as the driver. The vehicle was registered to Hertz Vehicles LLC, Vandalia, Ohio. Deputy Starkey reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Bryce A. Nelson, 18, 1832 140th, Marion, was southbound on Nighthawk Road near 190th in a 2001 Ford Ranger pickup at 11 a.m. Dec. 29, when he lost control on ice, went sideways into a ditch, and overturned the vehicle one time, landing on its wheels. The vehicle was registered to Dwight Nelson of the same address. Deputy McCarty reported the driver was injured but the report did not indicate if he was transported to a hospital. There was more than $1,000 in damages.

Larry D. Funk, 45, 1571 Holly, Hillsboro, was southbound on Indigo Road near 160th in a 1999 Dodge Dakota pickup at 3:08 p.m. Jan. 1, when a deer came out of the west ditch and was struck. The vehicle was registered to Lloyd Funk, 1648 Indigo, Hillsboro. The driver was not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages, reported Deputy Vogt.
