Accidents reported

Jason Marlo Peters, 28, Hesston, was southbound on K-15 near 120th in a 1998 Honda Civic at 6:05 p.m. Dec. 26 when his vehicle struck a deer that was standing in the lane of traffic. The driver slowed down but could not avoid hitting the deer because of oncoming traffic, reported Marion County Sheriff Deputy Duane McCarty. Renae J. Peters, 28, of the same address, was a passenger. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Bryant C. Brunner, 16, Ramona, was eastbound on 190th Road near Mustang in a 1999 Jeep at 4:05 p.m. Jan. 31 when he lost control of his vehicle when it hit an icy spot on the roadway. The vehicle entered a north ditch and rolled, coming to rest in a field. Kansas Highway Patrol reported the driver was transported to Hillsboro Community Medical Center with a possible injury.

Christopher W. Gibson, 19, 559 E. 210th, Hillsboro, was backing from a driveway in the 600 block of South Lincoln Street, Hillsboro, in a 1981 Ford Capri at 2:50 p.m. Jan. 1, when he struck a 2003 GMC Sonoma that was parked on the street. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages, reported Hillsboro Police Officer Gary Slater.

Ruth Ann Winter, 58, 222 N. Lincoln, Hillsboro, was backing from a parking space in the north parking lot of a business on Ash Street, Hillsboro, in a 1990 Ford Thunderbird at 1 p.m. Jan. 2, when she struck the left rear of a 1999 Dodge Intrepid that was driven by Ethelda H. Lemon, 67, 212 Schmidt Lane, Lehigh, that was stopped at a drive-up window. Hillsboro Police Officer David Funk reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Paul D. Smith, 65, Canton, was southbound on K-15 at the U.S.-56/K-15 intersection in a 1994 Ford truck at 6:36 p.m. Jan. 4 when he failed to stop at a stop sign. The Smith vehicle struck a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am, driven by Cierra N. Ediger, 20, McPherson, that was westbound on U.S.-56, causing it to come to rest in a south ditch. Frances S. Smith, 59, McPherson, was a passenger in the Smith vehicle and was taken by ambulance to Hillsboro Community Medical Center. Ediger was taken to Wesley Medical Center. The accident was investigated by Kansas Highway Patrol.
