Accidents reported

The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:

Tana L. Salome, 35, Wichita, was eastbound on U.S.-50 near Union Road in a 1998 Subaru station wagon at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 24, when a westbound 2002 Ford Ranger pickup, driven by William M. Vinduska II, 19, Wichita, swerved to avoid hitting an animal and went into a south ditch. Salome also went into the south ditch to avoid hitting the pickup. The report did not indicate if the two vehicles collided. The pickup was registered to Amanda Knowles, 18, of Wichita, who also was a passenger. Ronald J. Salome Jr., 19, Zared Salome, 7, and Sophia Salome, 6, all of the same address, were passengers in the station wagon. Marion County Sheriff Deputy Larry Starkey reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Renee C. Baatrup, 34, 412 Peabody Street, Peabody, was northbound on Sunflower Road near 90th in a 2001 Ford Windstar van at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 27, when she lost control on ice, entered an east ditch, and went through a barbed wire fence. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages, reported Marion County Sheriff Deputy Jim Philpott.

Guthrie D. Griffin, 64, Lebo, was eastbound on U.S.-50 near milemarker 292 in a 2007 Chevrolet C25 at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 27, when the driver lost control, the vehicle entered a north ditch, and overturned once, landing on its wheels. The truck was registered to Griffin Family Trust, Lebo. Joan M. Griffin, 59, of the same address, was a passenger. Deputy Philpott reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Alexander Robert Dalke, 21, McPherson, was southbound on Ash Street attempting to turn east on Grand Avenue, Hillsboro, in a 2000 Chevrolet pickup at 2:45 p.m. Dec. 29, and failed to yield the right-of-way, striking a 1996 Acura passenger car driven by Veronnica Leann Swickard, 18, 2147 K-15, Hillsboro. The pickup was registered to Janice Dalke, of the same address. Erin Klein, 21, McPherson, was a passenger in the pickup. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages, reported Hillsboro Assistant Police Chief Jessey Hiebert.

Richard T. Litton, 22, 505 Plum, Peabody, was passing a vehicle on Nighthawk Road near 120th in a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt at 6:15 p.m. Jan. 2, and hit a deer. The second vehicle, a 1997 Ford Taurus, was driven by Jordan L. Riggs, 15, 590 Norwood, Peabody. Riggs applied his brakes to avoid hitting the Cobalt and the deer. A third vehicle, a 1988 Oldsmobile passenger car, driven by Kevin R. Hayward, 43, 419 N. Lincoln, Marion, struck the left rear of the Taurus. The Cobalt was registered to Carol R. Pohlman, 412 N. Olive, Peabody. The Taurus was registered to Dennis Riggs of the same address. Hayward had a possible injury but was not transported by ambulance, reported Marion County Sheriff Deputy Duane McCarty. There were no other injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Anthony F. Campobasso, 82, Eagan, Minn., was westbound on U.S.-50 near Marion Street, Florence, in a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis at 4:35 p.m. Jan. 3, when the driver crossed the centerline and struck the left side of a semi trailer, a 2003 Freightliner, driven by Mark T. Chambers, Owasso, Okla. The truck was registered to Bennett Motor Express of McDonough, Ga. Marilyn J. Campobasso, 79, of the same address, was a passenger in the Mercury. Marion County Undersheriff Randal Brazil reported that both Campobasso and his passenger had possible injuries but were not transported by ambulance. No damage estimate was indicated on the accident report.

Clara M. Ens, 16, 1234 175th Road, Hillsboro, was backing from a parking stall at Hillsboro Middle School on Jefferson Street near A Street, Hillsboro, in a 1997 GEO at 12:05 p.m. Jan. 8, and backed into the side of a 2002 Oldsmobile passenger car driven by Rebecca K. Pankratz, 17, 604 W. Grand Avenue, Hillsboro. The GEO was registered to Stanley Ens of the same address. The Oldsmobile was registered to Jay D. Pankratz of the same address. There were no injuries and less than $1,000 in damages, reported Assistant Chief Hiebert.

Benjamin J. Heyen, 17, 610 W. C Street, Hillsboro, was westbound on D Street near Adams, Hillsboro, in the outside lane in a 1991 Honda Accord at 8:55 p.m. Jan. 9, and Samantha M. Hines, 16, Newton, also was westbound in the inside line in a 1994 Pontiac Grand Am and started to change lines, sideswiping the Honda. The Honda was registered to Orlin Heyen Construction of the same address. The Pontiac was registered to Samuel and Carol Hines of the same address. Passengers in the Pontiac were Jasmine D. Ensz, 14, 301 S. Birch, Hillsboro, Cory J. Abbott, 15, 108 E. First, Hillsboro, Cody A. Winblad, 15, 101 S. Summit, Goessel, and George B. Steketee, 14, 418 S. Adams, Hillsboro. Hillsboro Police Office David Funk reported there were no injuries and less than $1,000 in damages.

Jessica M. Kelly, 19, 615 E. First, Hillsboro, was accelerating after stopping at a stop sign at First and Main streets, Hillsboro, in a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero at 12:20 p.m. Jan. 12, and struck a 1997 Jeep driven by Larry A. Funk, 61, 870 U.S.-56, Hillsboro. The Oldsmobile was registered to Marisa N. Root of the same address. There were no injuries and less than $1,000 in damages, reported Assistant Chief Hiebert.
