Accidents reported

The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:

Karen E. Marler, 26, 3039 Mustang, Tampa, was northbound on Remington just north of 240th at 5:53 p.m. Jan. 14. A deer came out of the west ditch and was struck by the 2002 Ford Explorer Marler was driving. Emily Staatz, 12, Ramona, and Tori Marler, 12, of the home, were passengers. Undersheriff Randal Brazil states there were no injuries.

Peter K. Karanja, 40, Wichita, was eastbound on 50th just west of Wagon Wheel at 5:15 p.m. Jan. 3. Karanja's 1995 Dodge Caravan got stuck in the mud. While attempting to get the vehicle out of the mud, the vehicle caught fire. Karanja was not injured, reports Deputy Aaron Waddell.

Renee D. Ott, 44, Newton, was eastbound on 120th just east of Diamond at 2:14 p.m. Jan. 10. Traveling at 30 mph, the 1999 GMC Suburban she was driving slid off the north side of the road into the ditch. The vehicle rolled one time landing on its wheels. The vehicle is registered to R&S Albrecht Family Trust, Newton. Larry G. Ott, 48, of the home, was a passenger in the vehicle. No one was injured, states Officer Joe Base of Goessel.

Phillip V. Klenda, 22, 1729 310th, Lincolnville, was eastbound on 310th just east of Yarrow at 8:45 p.m. Jan. 15. Klenda lost control of his 2000 Ford pickup on the icy roadway. The vehicle overturned onto the left side. Klenda was not injured, reports Undersheriff Brazil.

Thomas L. Richmond, 45, 1625 Nighthawk, Marion, was northbound on K-15 at 310th. James Talley, 57, Solomon, also was northbound. As Talley was attempting to pass Richmond, Richmond attempted to make a left turn. The drivers could not avoid side impact. Richmond was driving a 1989 International registered to Straub International of Great Bend. Talley was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Impala registered to Dickinson County Sheriff Department, Abilene. No one was injured, reports Deputy Rollin Schmidt.

Alden Walter Skow, 64, Humboldt, Iowa, was eastbound on U.S.-50 just east of Nighthawk at 9:14 a.m. Jan. 10. Bradley S. Jantz, 35, 5781 NW 140th, Burns, was westbound on U.S.-50. Skow was driving a 1999 GMC Sierra pulling a trailer. The trailer began to jackknife and struck Jantz's 1997 International. The International is registered to J.L. Unruh of Newton. Juanita J. Skow, 63, Humboldt, Iowa, was a passenger in the GMC. The Skows were treated by Marion County EMS, reports Deputy Mike Vineski.

Susan M. Best, 25, 400 South Jefferson, Hillsboro, was eastbound on 190th just west of Nighthawk at 7:38 a.m. Jan. 12. Best lost control of her 2002 Ford utility truck, entered the south ditch, and overturned. Best was treated by Marion County Ambulance, states Deputy Vineski.

Dustin Allen Burchfield, 22, Fairview, Okla., was southbound on U.S.-77 just north of Broadway at 3:08 a.m. Jan. 12 when he lost control of the 2002 Honda Accord he was driving. The vehicle entered the west ditch and rolled onto its top. The vehicle is registered to Southern Hospice Inc., Oklahoma City, Okla. Deputy Vineski states Burchfield was not injured.

James E. Delk, 57, 975 240th, Hillsboro, was northbound on U.S.-77 just north of 105th at 1:58 p.m. Jan. 4. Delk's 1996 Mack tractor entered the icy roadway and began sliding, causing the trailer to jackknife. The vehicle, registered to American Tire Distributors of Lincoln, Neb., slid into the east ditch, states Deputy Schmidt. Delk was not injured.

Vera M. Bartel, 70, 111 N. Adams, Hillsboro, was southbound on Adams Street at E Street at 5 a.m. Jan. 7. Bartel entered the drive and struck concrete/rock ornaments that are property of Larry E. Klein, 700 S. Adams, Hillsboro. Bartel, driving a 1987 Buick LaSabre, was not injured, reports Deputy Schmidt.

Sarah E. Lewis, 29, 601 N. Elm, Peabody, was northbound on Sunflower just north of U.S.-50 at 7:40 a.m. Jan. 12 when she entered an icy portion of the roadway. Lewis, driving a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am, was unable to control the vehicle and entered the west ditch, striking a barbed wire fence belonging to Randolph Robinson of Wichita. The vehicle is registered to Hertz Vehicles LLC. Lewis was not injured, reports Deputy Schmidt.

Carol L. McFall, 23, 1737 170th Marion, was northbound on Quail Creek Rd. just north of 170th at 5:45 a.m. Jan. 12. McFall's 2000 Ford Taurus entered an icy patch on the roadway, spun around, and entered a ditch striking a pole. Deputy Schmidt states McFall was not injured.

Elmer R. Delk, 82, 1302 Mustang, Marion, was southbound on Kanza just north of 160th at 7 a.m. Jan. 11. Three deer came out of the west ditch and Delk's 1999 Cadillac DeVille struck one deer. Delk was not injured, reports Undersheriff Brazil.

Michael G. Warner, 49, 133 W. 7th, Florence, was stopped at the intersection of Alfalfa and 30th at 10:38 a.m. Jan. 12. Tony Leeds, 25, 623 Main, Florence, was driving a 2001 International Harvester. Leeds' vehicle approached Warner's 1997 Kenworth and was unable to stop because of icy roadway. Jeff D. Rosine, 43, 615 Nighthawk, Peabody, was a passenger in the Leeds vehicle. No one was injured, reports Deputy Schmidt.

Carol K. Leppke, 48, 1829 Falcon, Hillsboro, was westbound on 190th just west of Goldenrod at 4:40 p.m. Jan. 7. Her 1996 Ford Explorer slid on the ice, entered the ditch, and rolled onto its top. The vehicle is registered to Craig L. Leppke, of the home. Deputy Josh Whitwell states Leppke was not injured.

Jon E. Lewman, 37, 211 S. Lincoln, Marion, was northbound on Sunflower just north of 130th at 6:20 p.m. Dec. 25. A deer entered the roadway and was struck by Lewman's 1999 Ford Expedition. Passengers in the vehicle were Brandi, 33; Cole, 10; Zachary, 9; and Jossi, 5. Deputy Aaron Waddell states no one was injured.
