Accidents reported

The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:

Chase D. Freeborn, 24, 879 Xavier Road, Florence, was eastbound on U.S.-50 near Quail Creek Road in a 1999 Dakota pickup at 3:10 a.m. Nov. 10, when he fell asleep, causing the pickup to cross left of the center line and hit a guardrail. The driver was transported by Peabody EMS to Newton Medical Center, reported Marion County Sheriff Deputy Jim Philpott.

Justin R. Bowley, 22, McPherson, was westbound on 290th Road near Diamond in a 1999 Chevrolet passenger car at 8 p.m. Dec. 21, when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a bridge guardrail. The vehicle was registered to Casey J. Lautt of Harvey, N.D. Rebecca A. Lewis, 34, Canton, was a passenger. Marion County Sheriff Deputy Matt Vogt reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Jerry L. Kelsey, 19, 91 Lakeshore Drive, Marion, was eastbound on 190th Road near Old Mill in a 2002 Mitsubishi passenger car at 10:50 p.m. Dec. 22, when a deer came from a north ditch. The driver slammed on his brakes, slid on snow, and struck a guardrail. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages, reported Marion County Sheriff Sergeant Jeff Soyez.

Vernon J. Forbes, 75, Lincoln, Neb., was traveling northbound on K-15 near 90th Road and passing a vehicle in a 2001 Toyota Sienna at 11:40 a.m. Dec. 27, but didn't notice another vehicle was passing him. The driver jerked the wheel and lost control, rolling the vehicle on its top in an east ditch. Joann B. Forbes, 75, of the same address, was a passenger. Sergeant Soyez reported both occupants were injured and transported by Hillsboro EMS to Newton Medical Center.

Jennifer R. Wyss, 26, 1102 Timber, Marion, was southbound on Sunflower Road near 180th in a 1996 Pontiac Sunfire at 5:45 a.m. Jan. 5, when she lost control on the slick road and slid in a ditch. There were no injuries and less than $1,000 in damages, reported Deputy Vogt.

Jennifer A. Proffitt, 33, 214 S. Lincoln, Hillsboro, was northbound on Goldenrod Road near 190th in a 2007 Toyota Camry at 5:40 p.m. Jan. 7, when she reached for an object, drove off the road and onto the shoulder, and struck a metal post. Marion County Undersheriff Randal Brazil reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Wendell M. Bazil, 61, 112 S. Maple, Peabody, was southbound on Nighthawk Road near 130th in a 1994 Mercury Cougar at 9 a.m. Jan. 8, when a deer came from an east ditch and was struck. The driver was not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages, reported Marion County Sheriff Deputy Duane McCarty.

Clement J. Frederick, 37, 453 A Road, Burns, was eastbound on 60th Road near Pawnee in a 1992 Chrysler LeBaron at 6 p.m. Jan. 12, when a deer came from a north ditch. The driver attempted to avoid hitting the deer but was unable to and struck the animal. Marion County Sheriff Deputy Larry Starkey reported the driver was not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages.

Traci A. Helmer, 25, 147 S. Cedar, Marion, was westbound on 290th Road near Jade, approximately two miles east of Durham, in a 1999 Chevrolet truck at 12:58 p.m. Jan. 16, when she lost control of the vehicle on the slick road, rolled into a south ditch, and landed in a field. She was transported by ambulance to Hillsboro Community Medical Center. The accident was investigated by Kansas Highway Patrol.

Mitchell A. Neuwirth, 19, 121 S. Freeborn, Marion, was eastbound on Main Street near Freeborn, Marion, in a 1994 Chevrolet pickup at 5 p.m. Jan. 16, and a 2000 Chevrolet S-10 pickup, driven by Andrew J. Kelsey, 16, 91 Lakeshore Drive, Marion, was northbound on Freeborn, attempted to stop at the stop sign on Freeborn Street, and slid into the intersection, striking the Neuwirth vehicle. The Kelsey vehicle was registered to Kerry l. Kelsey, of the same address. Marion Police Chief Josh Whitwell reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Veronica L. Swickard, 18, 2147 K-15, Hillsboro, was eastbound on B Street near Madison, Hillsboro, in a 1995 Honda passenger car at 3:40 p.m. Jan. 17, and Benjamin J. Heyen, 18, 610 W. C Street, Hillsboro, was turning west from Madison on B Street in a 1991 Honda passenger car, and struck the Swickard vehicle. Hillsboro Assistant Police Chief Jessey Hiebert reported the streets were ice covered. Kevin Tidwell, 17, 211 S. Adams, Hillsboro, was a passenger in the Swickard vehicle. There were no injuries and less than $1,000 in damages.
