Accidents reported

The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:

Gary A. Gorman, 58, 305 S. Cedar, Marion, was traveling south on North Cedar and stopped at the stop sign at Cedar and Main Street in a 1994 Mercedes E420 at 2:50 p.m. Nov. 28, 2006, when a 1998 GMC pickup struck the car from behind. The pickup was driven by Anthony M. Helzer, 21, 305 S. Lincoln, Marion, and owned by Joyce Helzer of the same address. Marion Police Officer Robert Soyez reported there was more than $1,000 in damages and no injuries.

Mark W. Unruh, 44, 3090 Eagle, Durham, was eastbound on 340th near Eagle in a 1997 Ford F-250 pickup at 12:05 p.m. Jan. 17, when he lost control on icy ruts and went into a north ditch, knocking down approximately 60 feet of barbed wire fence. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damage, reported Marion County Sheriff Deputy Larry Starkey.

Jacob L. Ryan, 18, Newton, was southbound on K-15, near milemarker 149, in a 1999 Chevrolet pickup at 11:35 a.m. Jan. 20, when his vehicle slid on ice in front a northbound vehicle, a 2005 Chevrolet pickup driven by Don L. Burgett Jr., 55, Junction City. The two vehicles collided head on. Burgett was transported by Tampa EMS to Hillsboro Community Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Matthew L. Burgett, 18, Junction City, a passenger in the Burgett vehicle, was injured and transported by Hillsboro EMS to HCMC. Ryan was not injured. Kansas Highway Patrol investigated the collision.
