Accidents reported

The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:

Efre I. Martinez, 37, Wichita, was westbound on U.S.-50 near Timber in a 2006 Chevrolet 1500 Expedition at 4:10 p.m. Nov. 29 when he lost control of vehicle on ice and rolled in a north ditch. The vehicle was registered to Pavers Inc. of Salina. Passengers were Javrer Botello, 20, Arnado Vargas, 27, Eloyn R. Balderas-Cruz, 30, and Alejandr Hernandez-Yanez, 23, all of Wichita, and Alejandio Rodriguez, 58, of Salina. Marion County Sheriff Sergeant Jeff Soyez reported that Rodriguez and Vargas were injured but not transported to a hospital.

Trevor W. Smith, 26, 310 Grant, Marion, was eastbound on U.S.-56 near Quail Creek in 1997 Jeep at 6 p.m. Dec. 28 when a deer entered the road from the north. He was unable to avoid hitting the deer. Dustin L. Hulett, 26, 320 Fink. Marion, was a passenger. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages, reported Sergeant Soyez.

Yoben B. Ratzlaff, 24, 415 Ash, Hillsboro, was southbound on Indigo near 90th in a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier at 8:34 p.m. Jan. 6 when he lost control and slid into a west ditch through a fence. Kayla D. Letterman, 17, 214 N. Washington, Hillsboro, and David B. Buller, 21, 305 N. Ash, Hillsboro were passengers. Sergeant Soyez reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Laird C. Landis, 19, Abilene, was westbound in a Tabor College parking lot in a 1997 Chevrolet Camaro at 3:49 p.m. Jan. 15 when his vehicle slid around a corner and struck a 1997 Nissan Altima driven by Danielle R. Friesen, 21, Maize. Eric Weinbrenner, 19, 701 S. Wilson, Hillsboro, was a passenger in the Friesen vehicle. There were no injuries, reported Hillsboro Police Sergeant Chad Funk.

Jessica Dawn Shinkle, 29, Wichita, was northbound on Indigo near 290th in a 1994 Toyota pickup at 12:01 a.m. Jan. 17 when her vehicle went into an east ditch, flipped, and turned 180 degrees. The vehicle was pulled out of the ditch by another vehicle. The driver left the scene and failed to report the accident. The vehicle was registered to Kent Audio Visual of Wichita. Marion County Sheriff Deputy Duane McCarty investigated the accident.

Allison N. Meador, 18, 2068 Sunflower, Marion, was northbound on Sunflower near U.S.-56 in a 1999 Mitsubishi Montero at 4 p.m. Jan. 17 when she lost control on icy ruts and struck a sign post. Emily Meador, 15, of the same address, was a passenger. There were no injuries and damages were less than $1,000, reported Marion County Sheriff Deputy Larry Starkey.

Christopher Brandon Chlumsky of Wichita, discovered damage to his vehicle, a 2001 Chevrolet passenger car, at 11 p.m. Jan. 17 while parked in a Tabor College's off-street parking area on Madison Street. Hillsboro Assistant Chief Jessey Hiebert investigated the accident.

Margaret M. Wilson, 52, 117 Lakeshore Drive, was eastbound on Lakeshore Drive near 170th in a 2003 Buick Rendezvous at 8:15 a.m. Jan. 18 when the vehicle slid on ice and the left rear window struck a tree limb. The vehicle was registered to James M. Wilson of the same address. There were no injuries, reported Deputy Starkey.

Vickie Gail Stultz, 36, 1068 Goldenrod, Peabody, was southbound on Goldenrod near 100th in a 1986 Volkswagen Jetta at 1:45 p.m. Jan. 19 when she lost control, went into a west ditch, broke several small trees, and bent over an electric fence post. Deputy McCarty reported the driver left the scene and failed to report the accident.

Ella E. Wiebe, 76, 16 Park Avenue, Hillsboro, was parked in a stall on Grand Avenue near Main Street in a 1998 Olds 88 at 2:15 p.m. Jan. 19 when she backed into a 2006 Mercury Montego, driven by Susan E. Watson, 59, 702 W. A, Hillsboro, who was stopped on Grand, waiting for a parking stall. There were no injuries and less than $1,000 in damages, reported Sergeant Funk.

Benjamin P. Jantzen, 19, 373 Quail Creek, Peabody, was northbound on K-150 near U.S.-56 in a 1998 Dodge passenger car at 4:40 a.m. Jan. 20 when he fell asleep and crossed left of the center line. The vehicle struck a fence line and came to rest on a brace post. Sergeant Soyez reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Gary A. Reese, 51, Canton, was westbound on U.S.-56 near K-15 in a 1993 Mercury Topaz at 1:20 p.m. Jan. 20 when the vehicle slid on an icy road, entered a south ditch striking a sign and post. There were no injuries and less than $1,000 in damages, reported Marion County Sheriff Deputy Todd Simmons.

Howard W. Kahler, 60, 222 W. Fifth, Florence, was southbound on Lincoln Street near Maple in a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup at 11:55 a.m. Jan. 21 when he attempted to drive around a Bobcat loader driven by Ryan R. Richmond, 18, Herington. As the pickup was passing the loader, the loader turned around and struck the pickup. The pickup was owned by the City of Marion and the loader by Rodney Richmond, 215 S. Lincoln, Marion. Marion County Sheriff Deputy Jim Philpott reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Bradley D. Jantz, 49, Newton, was southbound on Indigo near 140th in a 1995 Buick LeSabre at 6:20 p.m. Jan. 23 when a deer came from an east ditch and was struck. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages, reported Deputy McCarty.

Kenneth F. Buller, 79, 309 N. Birch, Hillsboro, was backing eastbound from a parking lot at Hillsboro Senior Center, 212 N. Main, and collided with a parked vehicle, a 2000 Olds Alero, owned by Betty Gayle, 411 S. Cedar, Hillsboro. Sergeant Funk reported there were no injuries.

Thomas N. Kaufman, 41, 1514 Kanza, Hillsboro, was westbound on A Street in a 1978 Ford pickup at 8 a.m. Jan. 26 when it was struck on the passenger side by a 2002 Freightliner trash truck owned by the City of Hillsboro and driven by Kenneth B. Carlson, 53, 413 N. Ash, Hillsboro. Bailey A. Kaufman, 12, of the same address, was a passenger in the Kaufman vehicle and Jason R. Rooker, 23, 219 N. Jefferson, Hillsboro, was a passenger in the city vehicle. There were no injuries, reported Marion County Sheriff Deputy Josh Whitwell.
