Accidents reported

The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:

Larry K. Larsen, 56, 502 N. Walnut, Peabody, was northbound on K-15 nearly 270th Road in a 2002 Kia Rio at 12:50 p.m. Jan. 20 when his vehicle met another vehicle that was starting to lose control on the ice. Larsen pulled his vehicle to the right of the highway and lost control, traveled across the highway, and entered a west ditch. Marion County Sheriff Deputy Jim Philpott reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Matthew G. Berg, 21, 307 N. Ash, Hillsboro, was driving into the driveway at his home, in a 2000 Chevrolet 1500 pickup at 2:15 a.m. Jan. 23 when he could not stop the vehicle because of ice and snow on the driveway. The vehicle struck the garage door. The vehicle was registered to Matthew G. Berg and/or Jerrold W. Berg, Salina. The garage door was owned by Loney Riffel of Hope. There were no injuries, reported Hillsboro Police Officer David Funk.

Joe Alvarez Jr., 50, 112 S. Cedar, Hillsboro, was backing from a parking lot at Tabor College in a 2002 Freightliner refuse truck at 8:35 a.m. Feb. 1 when the vehicle struck a 2004 Ford pickup that was parked in the lot. The Freightliner was registered to City of Hillsboro, 118 E. Grand Avenue, Hillsboro, and the parked truck was registered to Michael W. Fisher, 106 N. Cedar, Hillsboro. Hillsboro Assistant Police Chief Jessey Hiebert reported Jason R. Rooker, 23, 219 N. Jefferson, Hillsboro, was a passenger in the city truck, and there were no injuries.

An unknown vehicle struck a "No Truck" sign at the intersection of Seventh and Vista in Lincolnville. The incident was reported to Marion County Sheriff at 10 a.m. Feb. 5 and investigated by Undersheriff Randal Brazil. The sign was owned by the City of Lincolnville.

Shelby L. Dirks, 37, 706 W. Grand Avenue, Hillsboro, was backing from off-street parking at Hillsboro Middle School in a 2002 Dodge pickup at 9:45 p.m. Feb. 6 when his vehicle struck a 2002 Pontiac Montana owned by Gregory l. Brown, 406 W. Arbor Court, Hillsboro. Assistant Police Chief Hiebert reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Elizabeth J. Hill, 45, 578 230th, Lehigh, was eastbound on 230th near Eagle Road in a 2000 Mazda 626 at 7:30 a.m. Feb. 10 when her vehicle struck a large dirt clod in the roadway. Both airbags in the vehicle were deployed. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages, reported Undersheriff Brazil.

Larry A. Funk, 61, 870 U.S.-56, attempted but was unable to stop behind traffic waiting to turn in the 600 block of North Ash Street, Hillsboro, in a 1993 pickup at noon Feb. 15 and rear-ended a 1998 Buick passenger car driven by Hazel J. Hein, 74, 2414 Kanza, Hillsboro. Assistant Police Chief Hiebert reported Hein had possible injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.
