Accidents reported

The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:

Caleb B. Barkman, 18, 413 Briarwood Lane, Hillsboro, was southbound on Ash Street near Orchard Drive, Hillsboro, in a 2007 Ford Explorer at 8:44 p.m. April 16, when he struck a legally parked vehicle on Ash Street. The parked vehicle was registered to Kenneth B. Carlson, 413 N. Ash, Hillsboro. The Explorer was registered to Brent Barkman of the same address. Hillsboro Police Officer Brad Richards reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Elma Lais, 88, 1817 U.S.-56, Marion, was westbound on U.S.-56 in a 1987 Pontiac 6000 at 3:30 p.m. April 18, when her vehicle was struck by a 2004 Ford Taurus driven by Brock R. Barnett, 17, 331 N. Lincoln, Marion, when he failed to yield at the corner of Timber and U.S.-56 as he turned west onto U.S.-56. The Taurus was registered to Gene F. Hageberg, of the same address. Kody M. Brooks, 12, of the same address, was a passenger in the Taurus. Marion County Sheriff Deputy Josh Whitwell reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Faith M. Wanja, 18, Wichita, was southbound on Indigo Road near 110th in a 2000 Oldsmobile at 10:15 p.m. April 18, when she lost control of the vehicle and went into a west ditch. The vehicle was registered to Roger W. Dirks, of the same address. There were no injuries and less than $1,000 in damages, reported Deputy Whitwell.

Erna M. Yeagley, 87, 1876 U.S.-56, Marion, was backing from a parking stall at Sonic Drive-In, Hillsboro Heights, Hillsboro, in a 1991 Cadillac at 1:07 p.m. April 22, when she struck the side of a 2006 Pontiac passenger car driven by Sara Lynn Miller, 26, 519 Lawrence, Durham, while parked in the drive-through lane. Hillsboro Assistant Chief Jessey Hiebert reported there were no injuries.

Nicholas C. Mueller, 16, 202 W. Second, Tampa, was northbound on Kanza Road near 250th in a 1999 Chevrolet 3500 pickup at 8:15 p.m. April 24, when a deer came from a west ditch and was struck. The pickup was registered to Clifford Carlson, 302 S. Adams, Hillsboro. Deputy Whitwell reported the driver was not injured and there was less than $1,000 in damages.

Stephen G. Gutierrez, 37, Colwich, was northbound on K-15 near milemarker 125 in a 1991 Chrysler New Yorker at 10:15 a.m. April 27, when a deer came from an east ditch and struck the vehicle. The driver was not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages, reported Marion County Sheriff Deputy Jim Philpott.

Michael H. McCartney, 54, Haysville, was southbound on Chisholm Trail Road near 100th in a 1999 Ford F-150 pickup at 10:40 a.m. April 28, when he drove through rough tracks, lost control, entered an east ditch, and struck a telephone pole. Deputy Philpott reported there were no injuries and more $1,000 in damages.

Preston T. Neufeld, 25, 1829 Jade, Hillsboro, was northbound on Cedar Street, Marion near U.S.-56 in a 2003 Chevrolet 1500 pickup at 10:40 p.m. April 28, when he became distracted and drove into a west ditch. A speed limit sign was struck during the incident. There were no injuries and less than $1,000 in damages, reported Deputy Whitwell.

Tyler J. Ediger, 16, Hutchinson, was coming to a stop to turn off D Street, Hillsboro, and into a parking lot in a 1993 Ford truck at 2:55 p.m. April 30, when a 1998 Lincoln driven by Melanie D. Sherman, 47, Hutchinson, struck the rear of the truck. The accident occurred two blocks west of Main Street. Kansas Highway Patrol reported Sherman was transported by ambulance to Hillsboro Community Medical Center. Ediger was not injured.
