Accidents reported
The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:
Cody R. Schafer, 26, 211 S. Floral Drive, Hillsboro, was westbound on 190th Road near K-256 in a 1996 Chevrolet C-15 pickup at 10:50 p.m. March 21, when he lost control of the vehicle while "texting" on his cell phone. The pickup entered a north ditch and struck a field entrance with the right front wheel. The driver was transported by Marion EMS to St. Luke Hospital, Marion. The vehicle was registered to Gene Schafer of the same address, reported Marion County Sheriff Deputy Larry Starkey.
Robert E. Grame, 61, Topeka, was eastbound on U.S.-56 in a 2002 Ford van at 12:45 p.m. May 6, and did not stop at the stop sign at the intersection of U.S.-56/77/K-150 and struck the passenger side of a 2008 Chevrolet van, driven by Jason P. Miller, 35, Bel Air, who was southbound on U.S.-56/77, which caused the Chevrolet to spin. Marion County Sheriff Deputy Travis Wilson reported Grame had possible injuries but was not transported to a hospital. The Ford was registered to Baich and Skinner, Inc., and the Chevrolet to the U.S. Government. There was more than $1,000 in damages.
Tanner Dickerson, 18, Newton, was eastbound on 170th Road near Turkey Creek on a 2002 Honda motorcycle at 5:45 p.m. May 17, when he lost control on loose gravel on the shoulder and went into a ditch. The driver was transported by Marion EMS to St. Luke Hospital, reported Marion County Sheriff Deputy Matt Vogt.
Gavin M. Weis, 16, 619 Centennial, Goessel, was southbound on Buller Street, Goessel, and had stopped at a stop sign at the corner of Buller and Main streets in a 2002 Pontiac passenger car at 3:35 p.m. May 23, and did not see a 2003 Buick Century driven by Lesley A. Winblad-Purvis, 41, 101 S. Summit, Goessel, and struck it. Passengers in the Buick were Jennifer B. Lee-Winblad, 14, and Daniel T. Lee-Winblad, 13, both of the same address as the driver. Marion County Sheriff Deputy Jim Philpott reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.
Naomi E. Nelson, 78, Burdick, was backing down a driveway at her residence on Bluestem Road in a 1993 Ford Ranger pickup at 9:27 a.m. May 24 and hit a barn. Deputy Travis Wilson reported there were no injuries.
Dakota J. Langley, 16, 1829 Jade, Hillsboro, was eastbound on Prospect Road near Maria Road in Harvey County in a 1986 Toyota 4-Runner at 9:50 p.m. May 25, when the driver lost control on a curve, went into an east ditch, and the vehicle rolled two times. Passengers in the vehicle were Justin D. Hein, 23, 205 S. Main, Hillsboro, Brett McIntosh, 18, 316 N. Jefferson, Hillsboro, and Andrea Jost, 19, 1653 Falcon, Hillsboro. Deputy Larry Starkey reported that Langley had possible injuries and Jost was injured. Jost was transported by private vehicle to Newton Medical Center, Newton. The vehicle was registered to Thomas J. Langley, of the same address. There was more than $1,000 in damages.
Beth D. Hein, 50, 1368 E. 170th, Hillsboro, was backing from a driveway on Willow Glen Lane near Arbor Court in a 2000 Dodge Caravan van at 12:01 a.m. May 29, and did not see a 1975 Chevrolet Manza that was parked across the street and struck the left rear. The car was owned by Joanne Loewen, 116 S. Wilson, Hillsboro. There were no injuries and less than $1,000 in damages, reported Hillsboro Police Officer David Funk.
Todd M. Stultz, 21, 1728 Eagle, Hillsboro, was northbound on Eagle Road near 170th in a 1984 Datsun pickup at 2 a.m. May 31, and was driving too fast for road conditions, lost control, hit an embankment, and the vehicle rolled one and one-quarter times. Marion County Sheriff Deputy Duane McCarty reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.
