Accidents reported
The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:
Tess Rice, 27, Newton, was eastbound on U.S.-50, 1.2 miles east of Yarrow Road, in a 1985 station wagon and Elaine A. Solheim, 68, Wichita, was westbound in a 1998 Dodge Neon at 12:02 p.m. June 7, when the station wagon crossed the center line. In an attempt to avoid the station wagon, the driver of the Dodge also crossed the center line where the two vehicles collided on the passenger sides. The Dodge spun and came to rest in the westbound lane. Michael S. Morgan Jr., 24, Mount Carroll, Ill., was driving a 2002 Peterbilt semi and tried to avoid the vehicles and oncoming traffic, and struck the station wagon with the rear axles of the trailer he was pulling. The station wagon came to rest in the north ditch and the truck on the westbound shoulder. Rice was transported to Newton Medical Center, Newton, with non-life-threatening injuries. Solheim was transported to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, with possible injuries. Morgan was not injured. Kansas Highway Patrol investigated the accident.
