Accidents reported

The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:

Dennis E. Dawson, 59, Cedar Point, was eastbound on U.S.-50 near milemarker 296 in a 2006 Dodge R-25 pickup at 4 p.m. June 2, when a deer came from a south ditch and was struck. The truck was registered to Troy Dawson of the same address. Ryan Cochran, 9, of the same address, was a passenger. Marion County Sheriff Deputy Jim Philpott reported the driver and passenger were not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages.

Kim B. Abrahams, 54, 1804 Indigo, Hillsboro, was eastbound on 150th Road near Goldenrod in a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser at 9:45 p.m. June 2, when a deer came from a south ditch and was struck. The driver was not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages, reported Marion County Sheriff Deputy Travis Wilson.

Byron Wiley, 21, Tomball, Texas, was southbound on U.S.-77 near milemarker 88 in a 2003 Ford F-15 pickup at 9:35 a.m. June 3, when a dog ran onto the roadway. The driver swerved to miss the animal, lost control of his vehicle, entered the east ditch, and overturned. The vehicle was registered to Bobby Wiley of the same address. Deputy Jim Philpott reported that the driver was injured and was transported by Florence EMS to St. Luke Hospital, Marion.

Delayne R. Herbel, 43, 1975 Diamond, Lehigh, was stopped in the roadway on U.S.-56, waiting to make a left turn onto Diamond Road in a 1992 Chevrolet C-15 pickup at 11:35 a.m. June 3, when a vehicle quickly approached him from behind. Herbel pulled forward but the second vehicle, a 2007 Honda Civic driven by Ruthanne E. Jantz, 24, 709 Santa Fe, Durham, was unable to avoid the pickup and struck the stopped vehicle. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages, reported Deputy Philpott.

Sonja Y. Gore, 45, 671 290th, Durham, was eastbound on 290th Road near Falcon in a 2000 Toyota passenger vehicle at 5:45 a.m. June 4, when a deer came from a south ditch and was struck. Marion County Undersheriff Randal Brazil reported the driver was not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages.

Robin M. Johnson, 46, Gypsum, was northbound on K-15 near 350th Road in a 1996 Buick passenger car at 10:15 p.m. June 5, when a deer came from a west ditch and was struck. The driver and passengers Paul R. Johnson, 55, and Erin M. Johnson, 17, both of the same address as the driver, were not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages, reported Marion County Sheriff Deputy Duane McCarty.

Kylie L. Burhoop, 18, Herington, was eastbound on 290th Road one-half mile east of Upland Road in a 2008 Mercury Milan at 12:01 a.m. June 6, when a deer came from a south ditch and was struck. The vehicle was registered to Enno F. Burhoop, of the same address. Carlye Simons, 15, 110 Kansas, Lincolnville, was a passenger. Marion County Sheriff Deputy Larry Starkey reported the driver and passenger were not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages.

Steven R. Rooker, 49, 219 N. Jefferson, Hillsboro, was southbound on Indigo Road near 160th in a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am at 5:45 a.m. June 10, when a deer came from a west ditch and ran into the passenger side of the car. The driver was not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages, reported Deputy Wilson.

Kimberly K. Manuel, 34, Hutchinson, was southbound on Ash Street in a 2008 Toyota Sienna at 8:08 p.m. June 11, when Jacob Funk, 9, 113 S. Ash, Hillsboro, ran in front of the vehicle and was struck. The pedestrian was taken by Hillsboro EMS to Hillsboro Community Medical Center. The vehicle was registered to Mid-Kansas Inv. Inc. DBA Midwest Toyota. Passengers in the vehicle were Jacob W. Manuel, 8, and Kaylee J. Manuel, 12, both of Tucson, Ariz., and Camden R. Davis, 7, and Clare A. Davis, 10, both of the same address as the driver, reported Hillsboro Police Officer Brad Richards.

James C. Baker, 62, 215 Juniper, Hillsboro, was turning left from A Street onto Ash in a 2003 Dodge Dakota pickup at 1:42 p.m. June 13, and turned in front of a 1991 Chevrolet S-10 pickup, driven by Thomas D. Koslowsky, 52, 406 Oak, Hillsboro, who was driving north on Ash Street. The Chevrolet struck the Dodge. The Dodge was registered to Baker Brothers Printing Company Inc., 113 S. Main, Hillsboro. Hillsboro Assistant Police Chief Jessey Hiebert reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Austin R. Jost, 15, 1383 140th, Marion, was westbound on 120th Road near Holly in a 1995 Ford Mustang at 4 p.m. June 13, and Timothy N. Hurst, 39, 205 N. Washington, Hillsboro, was eastbound on 120th Road in a 1996 GMC pickup. When the vehicles met at the top of a hill, they sideswiped. Undersheriff Brazil reported that neither driver was injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages. The Mustang was registered to Lesa Jost of Moundridge.

Dale C. Wealand, 67, Elmdale, was northbound on U.S.-77 near U.S.-50 in a 2001 Pontiac Bonneville at 9:50 p.m. June 13, when a deer came from a ditch and was struck. Kay E. Wealand, 66, of the same address, was a passenger. The driver and passenger were not injured, reported Undersheriff Brazil, and there was less than $1,000 in damages.

Donald C. Gillet, 75, 2282 50th, Florence, was eastbound on 50th Road in a 1998 Chevrolet S-10 pickup at 11:30 a.m. June 14, when he stopped at a stop sign and then pulled in front of a 1998 Subaru Spt. LL driven by Tana L. Salome, 35, Westmoreland. Salome swirved and applied her brakes, and struck the right side of the pickup, causing the pickup to overturn. The Subaru caught fire. Gillet was transported by Florence EMS to St. Luke Hospital. Salome was flown by LifeTeam to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. Deputy McCarty reported that passengers in the Subaru, Zared Salome, 7, and Sophia Salome, 6, all of the same address, were not injured.

Kassidi Ann Luthi, 17, 202 S. Cedar, Hillsboro, was backing from a private drive at 202 S. Cedar, Hillsboro, in a 1990 Buick passenger car at 2:35 p.m. June 14, she struck a 1996 Ford pickup, owned by David D. Unruh, 105 N. Cedar, Hillsboro, that was legally parked. The Buick was registered to Darin Luthi of the same address. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages, reported Hillsboro Assistant Police Chief Hiebert.

Dorothy A. Blubaugh, 55, McPherson, was westbound on U.S.-56 near Kanza Road in a 1998 Toyota Camry at 9 p.m. June 14, when a deer came from a south ditch and was struck. The vehicle was registered to Richard Blubaugh of the same address. Undersheriff Brazil reported that the driver was not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages.
