Accidents reported

The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:

Sharon L. Bina, 56, 2752 Yarrow Road, Lincolnville, was traveling northbound on Xavier Road near 290th in a 1975 GMC truck at 4 p.m. Sept. 29, when she was unable to stop the vehicle, tried to turn a corner, and entered the north ditch. The truck rolled on its side and spilled its load. Marion County Sheriff Deputy Jim Philpott reported the driver was injured but the report did not indicate if she was transported to a hospital. No damage estimate was listed.

Calvin D. Wiebe, 35, 3171 Alamo Road, Durham, was eastbound on 320th Road near Alamo in a 1999 Dodge pickup at 7 a.m. Oct. 4, when a deer entered the roadway and was struck. Deputy Philpott reported the driver was not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages.

Sharon L. Klein, 60, 2885 Limestone Road, Tampa, was northbound on Kanza Road near 250th in a 1996 Ford Explorer at 9 p.m. Nov. 3, when a deer came from a west ditch and was struck. Donald Klein, 63, of the same address, was a passenger. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages, reported Marion County Sheriff Deputy Larry Starkey.

Brandon Lucky David, 29, 405 S. Birch, Hillsboro, was eastbound on Birch Street near D Street in a 1973 Lincoln Continental at 6 p.m. Nov. 4, and scraped the side of a parked vehicle. The Lincoln was owned by Karen D. Funk of the same address. The parked vehicle, a 1994 Nissan Sentra, was owned by Jonathan Maxfield, 311 S. Birch, Hillsboro. Hillsboro Police Officer Steven Janzen reported there were damages more than $1,000. The accident report did not indicate if there were any injuries.

Lynn Penner, 77, 1032 U.S.-56, Hillsboro, was backing from a parking stall at 609 Western Heights, Hillsboro, in a 2000 Pontiac van at 10:10 a.m. Nov. 7, and struck an illegally parked 2000 Lincoln passenger car owned by Shirley Weibert, 803 W. Grand, Hillsboro. Elva Penner, 74, of the same address, was a passenger in the Penner vehicle. There were no injuries, reported Hillsboro Assistant Police Chief Jessey Hiebert. No damage amount was indicated on the report because the accident occurred on private property.

Julie A. Scheideman, 42, 314 S. First, Marion, was northbound on Sunflower Road near 140th in a 2005 Chevrolet passenger car at 7:15 p.m. Nov. 7, when a raccoon came from an east ditch and was struck. Marion County Undersheriff Randal Brazil reported the driver was not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages to the vehicle.

Sandra C. Abrahams, 61, Newton, was traveling north on K-15 near 120th Road in a 1999 Ford Windstar van at 6:20 p.m. Nov. 10, when the van struck a deer on the roadway. Marna Abrahams, 85, Newton, was a passenger. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages, reported Deputy Philpott.

Brenda M. Freissen, 34, 208 E. Case, Lehigh, was backing east from private property at 122 S. Main, Hillsboro, in a 2000 Dodge Caravan van at 8:15 a.m. Nov. 12. She backed across the alley and struck a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer that was parked in another lot, east of the alley. The Trailblazer was registered to Micah Ratzlaff, 306 S. Kennedy, Hillsboro. Hillsboro Police Chief Dan Kinning reported there were no injuries. No damage estimate was given on the report because the accident occurred on private property.

Raymond D. Ortiz, 22, Wichita, was northbound on Sunflower Road near 150th in a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo at 9:20 a.m. Nov. 13, when he went into a west ditch, returned to the road, swerved, and entered a west ditch, rolling the vehicle at least two times. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages, reported Deputy Starkey.

Dorothy J. Foth, 80, Halstead, was southbound on Indigo Road near 150th in a 1995 Oldsmobile passenger car at 2:15 p.m. Nov. 13, when a deer came from an east ditch and was struck. The driver was not injured and damages were listed as less than $1,000, reported Undersheriff Brazil.

Estelle M. McCarty, 73, Marion, was at the intersection of Cedar Street and U.S.-56 in a 1998 Buick Century at 3 p.m. Nov. 13, when she entered U.S.-56 in front of a 2007 Peterbilt semi driven by Roger Allen Moeller, 53, Enid, Okla. The semi struck the side of the car. McCarty was transported to St. Luke Hospital, Marion. Moeller was not injured. Kansas Highway Patrol investigated the accident.

Patricia C. Hunnell, 70, Brandon, Ore., was southbound on Old Mill Road near 40th in a 2004 Ford van at 10:40 a.m. Nov. 16, when a deer came from a west ditch and was struck. Marion County Sheriff Deputy Duane McCarty reported the driver was not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages.

Marty R. Bell, 46, Herington, was westbound on 280th Road near Yarrow in a 2004 Ford pickup at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 17, when he drove through dust as a result of an eastbound vehicle and did not see a tractor turning in front of him. Bell went into the north ditch and struck a tree to avoid hitting the tractor. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages, reported Deputy McCarty.

Sheila M. Williams, 38, 212 S. Fourth, Marion, was southbound on Timber Road near 290th in a 1992 Buick passenger car at 2:10 a.m. Nov. 18, when she lost control on loose gravel, entered a west ditch, and struck a power pole that was owned by Flint Hills RECA of Council Grove. Deputy Starkey reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.
