Accidents reported

The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:

Matthew Eric Entz, 18, 910 Maple, Peabody, was northbound on Washington just south of Scott in Burns at 1 a.m. Nov. 21. Entz lost control of the 1990 GMC Sierra he was driving and went into the west ditch. The vehicle is registered to Rodney Entz, 1434 80th, Peabody. Entz was not injured, reports Deputy Josh Whitwell.

Jason L. Smith, 34, Wichita, was westbound on U.S.-56 just west of Chisolm Trail at 7:10 p.m. Nov. 21 when a deer entered the roadway from the south ditch. Smith, driving a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado, struck the deer and a barbed wire fence. The fence is property of Van Peters, 1875 Chisolm Trail, Lehigh. The vehicle is registered to The Law Company, Inc., Wichita. Passengers in the vehicle were Heather L. Smith, 32; Jordan L. Smith, 10; and Paityn E. Smith, 6, all of the home. No one was injured, reports Deputy Josh Whitwell.

Tommy J. McCartney, 39, 1094 Old Mill Road, Marion, was attempting to turn around in a field entrance on U.S.-77 just north of milepost 99 at 2 p.m. Nov. 16. McCartney backed up a 1999 Chevrolet pickup, registered to Kansas Department of Transportation, causing the attached trailer to jackknife into the driver's side rear fender and bumper. Greg B. Clothier, 37, 324 North Elm, Marion, was a passenger in the vehicle. No injuries were sustained, reports Deputy Whitwell.

Dale M. Herring, 42, Abilene, was northbound on K-15 just north of 70th at 5:25 a.m. Nov. 24. Herring, driving a 2001 WSTR 4964ex truck, skidded on the icy roadway. The trailer jackknifed and entered the west ditch, turning onto its left side. An electric pole belonging to Westar Energy was destroyed. Herring was not injured, reports Deputy Rollin Schmidt.

Pamela D. Abbott, 43, 208 West B Street, Hillsboro, was southbound on Indigo just north of U.S.-56 at 9 p.m. Nov. 21. A deer came into her path and was struck by the 1993 Dodge pickup she was driving. Donald Abbott, 47, of the home, was a passenger in the vehicle. No one was injured, reports Sergeant Jeff Soyez.

James L. Spohn, 56, 3158 Nighthawk, Tampa, was turning east onto 170th from U.S.-77. Spohn was behind several vehicles in the southbound lane. Richard L. Layman, 62, Hennessey, Okla., passed the vehicles striking Spohn's 1977 GMC Sierra Classic on the front fender. Layman was driving a 1999 Freightliner registered to Dealers Choice Truckway System, Inc., Kansas City, Mo. Mary L. Layman, 60, of the home was a passenger in the vehicle. No injuries were reported, states Deputy Aaron Waddell.

Susan A. Savage, 54, 200 South Santa Fe, Burns, was northbound on U.S.-77 just south of U.S.-50 at 5:35 p.m. Nov. 22 when a deer ran into the path of her 1988 Cadillac. Savage was unable to avoid hitting the deer. Ray E. Savage, 52, of the home, was a passenger. Deputy Waddell states there were no injuries.

Delores H. Johnson, 47, 114 South Cedar, Hillsboro, was westbound on 190th just east of Jade at 11:34 a.m. Nov. 22. Johnson's 1998 Pontiac left the roadway and struck a gas line marker, telephone pole, and road sign. Johnson was taken by Marion County EMSto Hillsboro Community Medical Center, states Deputy Mike Vineski.

Lynn R. Franzen, 41, 851 140th, Hillsboro, was southbound on Eagle just south of 140th at 7:20 a.m. Nov. 23. A deer came out of the west ditch and was struck by Franzen's 2000 GMC. Franzen was not injured, reports Undersheriff Randal Brazil.

Eldon Wiens, 71, 1244 140th, Hillsboro, was southbound on Kanza just south of 190th at 9:38 p.m. Nov. 20. Two quarter horse colts, owned by Jerel Pankratz, 1541 Kanza, Hillsboro, were standing in the roadway. Wiens, driving a 1999 Oldsmobile 88, was unable to avoid hitting both colts, killing them. Lavonne Wiens, 72, of the home was a passenger in the vehicle. Eldon and Lavonne Wiens were taken by Hillsboro Ambulance to Hillsboro Community Medical Center, reports Undersheriff Brazil.

Elzora N. Prouty, 46, 7736 Northwest 96th, Hesston, was westbound on 90th just west of Alamo at 9 p.m. Nov. 19. A deer came from the north ditch and was struck by Prouty's 1995 Dodge Intrepid. The vehicle is registered to Rick Prouty, of the home. Prouty was not injured, reports Deputy Larry Starkey.

Clay L. Riggs, 15, 2392 U.S.-50, Florence, was northbound on Sunflower just north of 160th at 5:10 p.m. Nov. 13. Riggs swerved to avoid a deer in the road and went into the east ditch, striking a tree. Riggs was driving a 1990 Mazda Protégé registered to Bonnie S. Harrison, 609 East E, Hillsboro. Riggs was not injured, reports Deputy Starkey.

Bradley Hiebert, 22, 1141 Eagle, Hillsboro, was westbound on 120th just east of Diamond at 7:15 a.m. Nov. 20. A deer entered the roadway from the north ditch. Hiebert, driving a 1991 Pontiac Grand Am, was unable to avoid hitting and killing the deer. Hiebert was not injured, reports Deputy Schmidt.

Vincent C. Madron, 26, 308 North B, Ramona, was southbound on Quail Creek at 330th. Lothar A. Maaser, 74, Box 32, Tampa, was eastbound on 330. Maaser, driving a 1998 Ford Ranger, stopped at a stop sign, then pulled out onto Quail Creek making a left turn in front of Madron's 1998 Ford Ranger. Neither man was injured, reports Deputy Schmidt.

Darryl A. Tamez, 22, Fort Riley, was northbound on U.S.-56/77 just south of 300th at 5:25 p.m. Nov. 14. An animal was crossing the highway and Tamez swerved the 1998 Toyota 4-Runner he was driving, entered the east ditch, and overturned. Eric Champion, 22, and Brian Williams, 22, both of Fort Riley, were passengers in the vehicle which is registered to Redline Motor Sports, Tulsa, Okla. Tamez was taken by Tampa Ambulance to Herington Hospital and Champion was taken by Marion Ambulance to St. Luke Hospital. Williams was not injured, reports Undersheriff Brazil.

Howard A. Thomas, 65, Newton Falls, Ohio, was eastbound on U.S.-50 just east of Pawnee at 5:55 p.m. Nov. 12. A deer came from the north ditch and was struck by Thomas' 1994 Freightliner. Carol A. Thomas, 57, Newton Falls, Ohio, was a passenger in the vehicle and the registered owner. No one was injured, reports Deputy Starkey.

Rendilyn Cress, 20, Newton, was northbound on K-15 just north of 120th at 2:20 p.m. Nov. 9. A prairie dog cage fell from Cress' 1992 Toyota pickup and was struck by a 1987 Plymouth Colt driven by Larry J. Pawloski Jr., 21, 218 South Ash, Hillsboro. No injuries were reported, states Deputy Vineski.

Joshua D. Blandin, 22, Burrton, was attempting to make a three-point turn at Indigo, just south of 210th. Blandin, driving a 1993 Dodge Intrepid, went too far forward, and struck the embankment. Timothy D. Robertson, 21, McPherson, was a passenger in the vehicle. No one was injured, reports Deputy Vineski.

Steven R. Rooker, 45, 219 North Jefferson, Hillsboro, was northbound on Indigo just north of 100th at 3:20 p.m. Nov. 18. A deer entered the roadway from the east and was struck by Rooker's 1998 Pontiac Grand Am. Rooker was not injured, reports Deputy Schmidt.

Steven R. Svoboda, 40, 2874 Vista Road, Lincolnville, was westbound on K-150 just east of Wagonwheel at 8 p.m. Nov. 20. A deer entered the roadway from the north ditch, crossed the road, and re-entered the road from the south. Svoboda, driving a 1994 GMC Suburban, struck the deer. Passengers in the vehicle were Anita Svoboda, 41; Abigaile Svoboda, 6; Cody Svoboda, 5, all of the home; Barbra Svoboda, 68, 2580 270th, Lincolnville; and Susie Wessel, 30, 210 E. Copeland, Kingman. No one was injured, reports Deputy Whitwell.

James Elliott Yates, 54, Wellington, was southbound on U.S.-56 just north of 320th at 6:15 p.m. Nov. 20. Four deer entered the roadway from the east ditch. The second deer was struck by Yates' 1999 Pontiac Bonneville. Linda K. Yates, 53, of the home, was a passenger in the vehicle. No one was injured, reports Deputy Whitwell.

Richard D. Nickel, 63, 408 Briarwood, Hillsboro, was northbound on Indigo just north of 180th at 7:15 p.m. Nov. 19. A deer entered the roadway and was struck by Nickel's 2002 Lincoln LS. The vehicle is registered to Ford Credit and Titling Trust, Hillsboro. Nickel was not injured, reports Deputy Whitwell.

Darin L. Weier, 35, Benton, was southbound on U.S.-77 just south of 140th at 4:31 p.m. Nov. 20. A deer came out of the west ditch and was struck by Weier's 2002 Ford F-150. Briauna Weier, 8, of the home, was a passenger in the vehicle. Undersheriff Brazil states there were no injuries.

Pamela K. Penner, 56, 2255 K-15, Hillsboro, was southbound on K-15 just north of U.S.-56 at 6:40 p.m. Nov. 15. A deer ran into the path of Penner's 1998 Saturn and was struck. Penner was not injured, reports Deputy Waddell.

Brad D. Cole, 38, 1560 320th, Tampa, was eastbound on 320th just east of Limestone at 7:55 a.m. Nov. 2. A deer entered the roadway from the south ditch and was struck by Cole's 1995 Chevrolet S-10. Cole was not injured, reports Sheriff Lee Becker.

Walter J. Silvernale, 67, Newton, was westbound on U.S.-50. A deer came from the south ditch and was struck by Silvernale's 2001 Ford Taurus. Lois Silvernale, 68, of the home, was a passenger in the vehicle. No one was injured, reports Deputy Starkey.

Duane A. Brecke, 48, Marshfield, Wis., was southbound on K-15 just north of 330th at 5:55 p.m. Nov. 8. A deer ran into the path of Brecke's 2001 Volvo. Brecke was not injured, reports Deputy Waddell.

Randall D. Kahns, 48, 2936 Xavier, Lincolnville, was southbound on U.S.-56/77 just north of 270th at 8:15 a.m. Nov. 8. Kahns, driving a 2001 GMC Sanoma, was unable to avoid hitting a deer in the roadway. Kahns was not injured, reports Deputy Waddell.

Diana K. Wright, 16, 201 South Kennedy, Hillsboro, was westbound on 90th just west of Holly at 7:26 a.m. Nov. 10. Wright, driving a 1992 Chevrolet Cavalier, lost control of the vehicle, entered a skid into the north ditch, and rolled onto its top. The vehicle is registered to Leaann Knaak, 305 South Cedar, Hillsboro. Wright was not injured, reports Deputy Schmidt.

Lorita E. Brazzle, 44, Madison, was eastbound on U.S.-56 just west of K-15 at 9 p.m. Nov. 13. A deer was standing in the roadway and was struck by Brazzle's 1994 Nissan Pathfinder. Brazzle was not injured, reports Undersheriff Brazil.
