Another good one is gone

Marion has lost a great woman and I have lost another dear friend. Lorraine and LaVern Hadsell came to Marion more than 50 years ago and they both soon took on leadership roles. He as president of then Farmers and Drovers National Bank and other community affairs. She worked in the Presbyterian church and St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary. For awhile she had a gift and craft shop across from the museum. Then she taught ceramic painting and other things. I, along with several friends, joined her classes and felt proud of our creations.

But what Lorraine needs to receive the most honor and praise for is her work in our beautiful museum. She and Phyllis Melton spent years as volunteers in restoring interest in the museum. They spent every day, organizing and indexing every article there. Sometimes they produced special programs there to create public interest. I wouldn't be surprised that Phyllis and Lorraine are reorganizing and indexing everything in heaven now.

In contrast is evidence of some mean people who stole 23 saddles and 15 bridles from a stable near Wichita. They were used to give therapy to people who are mentally disabled.

It takes all kinds but sometimes I think there are too many of the wrong kind.

Happy Thanksgiving.
