Application for youth hunters on county website

Staff reporter

Teen and disabled hunters will continue to apply to hunt at the former county landfill through the county's web site.

Organizer Dale Ehlers said Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks had listed the Marion County web site in a recent publication as the place to go for the applications. At Monday's meeting, Marion County Commission gave its approval to continue the application process in that way.

The applications will be reviewed by Ehlers with county residents receiving first priority.

The special hunting area is designed for youth and disabled hunters with only one party hunting on the grounds at one time.

Ehlers said he had a complaint from a disabled hunter last year regarding having to park on the road. The commission gave permission to Ehlers to allow all hunters involved in the program to park on a grassy area instead of the county road.

The county web site is www.marioncoks.net.

— When acting county public works director John Summerville was asked about the progress of an eminent domain lawsuit regarding a bridge project on 140th Road by Florence, Summerville said a judge would have to be make that determination. Construction of the bridge cannot begin until that determination is made by the judge, Summerville said.

Commissioner Dan Holub said he understood that the county could move forward with the project and the court's decision was based on the amount of compensation to the landowner.

The next court date is at 10 a.m. Aug. 5.

— Summerville reported that Robert Weathers, a full-time employee, was going to become a part-time employee. Currently Weathers makes $1,970 per month and would make $11.70 per hour.
