Area business receives convention scholarship

Walters' Pumpkin Patch near Burns recently was awarded a Kansas Department of Commerce scholarship to attend the North American Farmers' Direct Marketing Association convention in January in Austin, Texas.

Thirteen Kansas businesses were awarded agri tourism scholarships which are designed to help Kansas agri tourism operators attend conferences, seminars, and education tours, gain first-hand information regarding practices and techniques used by other agri tourism vendors, and develop nationwide relationships within the industry.

The recipients' awards totaled $15,788.

Scholarships were granted in two categories — conference attendance and best-practices educational trips.

Other businesses were awarded scholarships to attend the Kansas Bed & Breakfast Association annual conference in March in Junction City, and a best-practices educational trip in Canadian, Texas.
