Art in the Park promises to be a shopper's paradise

Thousands of visitors and residents soon will gather in Central Park, Marion, to see artists display their wares.

The 28th annual Art in the Park and Craft Show will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 16.

A free shuttle bus service again will be available at Marion Die and Fixture, 421 W. Main Street, and Marion Baseball Complex on Eisenhower Drive. Departures will be every 15 minutes.

Only those items that are truly handmade are accepted at the show.

Artists from several states will display such items as limestone, metal art, food products, soaps, candles, baskets, clothing, jewelry, pet items, furniture, and photographs.

Recent returning favorites include lighted glass blocks, fabric-wound pottery, lariat rope art, and hand-knitted and felted wool and mohair hats.

New items include sports lamps, decoupage baskets, fruit garlands, bottle caps, tie-dyed clothing, and metal art.

A new attraction this year will be a honey booth with an observation hive.

An internationally-known photographer will display a variety of his works from still life to animals to antique photographs.

Live entertainment will perform at the gazebo.

A large variety of foods will be available at the food court — everything from funnel cakes to pocket tacos, bierocks, freshly-squeezed limeades, and caramel apples.

Register to win a $20 gift certificate courtesy of Marion Chamber of Commerce Art in the Park Committee. Ten certificates will be given away at 4 p.m. and may be used at any booth before the close of the show.
