Auction is Saturday for park equipment fund-raiser

Fund-raising has been successful for new playground equipment at Marion's Central Park but more money still is needed.

An auction is planned to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Marion City Auditorium, 203 N. Third.

Donated items include exercise equipment, furniture, appliances, toys, new and used items, and decorative yard ornaments.

Two tickets will be given away Saturday for the Reba McIntire and Kelly Clarkson concert to be held Jan. 31 at Wichita. The tickets also include VIP passes to the Coors Light Barbecue. Donations are being accepted for chances to win.

So far $48,400 has been raised with $26,600 still needed. By the end of February, an additional $17,500 needs to raised to pay for the mulch and $2,500 for installation.

Donors also have an opportunity to purchase individual pieces of playground equipment, with their names being placed on plaques on the equipment.

When the equipment is installed this spring, five or six volunteers will be needed during a three to four-day period to help the playground equipment company supervisors.
