Baby pool, slide may be paid by city

An agreement between the City of Marion and Marion-USD 408 continues to be negotiated regarding the city's new indoor swimming pool.

It was reported at a special Marion City Council meeting Feb. 4, that USD 408 Superintendent Lee Leiker had offered to ask the school board for permission to pay the entire cost of the heating and ionization systems if the city would purchase a baby pool, spray system, and slide for a total of $145,000.

Leiker also had suggested that the city pay a small portion now and the school district would pay the balance. The balance then could be budgeted in 2009 by the city and used to reimburse the school district.

The city may consider paying $40,000 this year for the slide and baby pool and bids must be submitted to the council before any other funds are released.
