The grand opening of Bailey's Tavern in Lincolnville took place Friday and Saturday.

Sylvia Bailey, who has resided in Lincolnville for about a year and a half, purchased the former Renegades building from Kevin Krch.

"I'm not a beer drinker," she said. "I want this to be a gathering place for people. And I want to preserve these buildings before they fall down."

During the past two months, Bailey enhanced interior walls with a rich green paint and natural wood paneling.

She built a window seat, installed inside shutters on the windows, and hung valance curtains.

A big antique sideboard cupboard holds glassware. Walls are decorated with mounted animal heads and pictures of wild game.

Bailey also spruced up the exterior with paint, wood shingles, and a new sign.

The tavern is equipped with a sturdy bar and 16 bar stools, as well as seven round tables with chairs and two pup tables with stools.

A cricket game, jukebox, and two pool tables are available.

Bailey said she had a good crowd Friday night with customers from Hillsboro and Marion as well as the local area. Things got busy Saturday night after the co-ed softball tournament ended at the ball diamond.

"This is the first time I've attempted anything like this," Bailey said. "It's a real learning experience and I have a whole new appreciation for those on the other side."

Bailey moved into her home in Lincolnville in January 2004, after retiring from her job as a design engineer at Northrop Grumman Corporation in California.

"I really like my retirement, so I don't want to get too bogged down," she said.

Regular weekly business hours are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 5 p.m. to midnight. Hamburgers and hot dogs are available along with 3.2 beer, soda pop, bottled water, and iced tea.
