Barbara Kleopfer

Barbara Lynn Kleopfer died suddenly Oct. 15, 2007, at her home at Newport News, Va.

She was born Dec. 8, 1954, at Herington, and came to the local area with her parents in 1964.

Barbara attended Denbigh High School, Newport News, Va., and worked for 28 years at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.

She began her career as an interpreter and lantern tour guide. Her most recent position was a groomer for the carriage horses used throughout the operations of the historic area.

Barbara also cared for all the horses including two of her own at the Boots and Saddles Club at the Fort Eustis stables.

Barbara's passion was for her horses and the many animals that always seemed to find her.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Corinne J. (Moffitt) Kleopfer in 1989.

She is survived by her father, Donald Kleopfer of Newport News, Va.; two sisters, Carolyn K. Davis of Baraboo, Wis., and C. Annette Minter of Williamsburg, Va.; a brother, John D. Kleopfer of Richmond, Va.; and two nephews, Michael and John Minter of Williamsburg, Va.

The family received friends Dunday afternoon at Nelsen Funeral Home, Williamsburg.

A funeral service was conducted Monday morning at Saint Jerome's Catholic Church on Denbigh Boulevard, Newport News, with burial in Peninsula Memorial Park.
