Battle continues against Marion mosquitoes

The City of Marion will continue to spray for mosquitoes, reported Harvey Sanders, city public utilities superintendent, Monday to Marion City Commission.

City crews sprayed Friday evening and will spray again this week, Sanders said.

"We've been putting brickets in the water stream to kill the mosquito eggs," Sanders said.

City administrator David Mayfield said the city will participate in a web service advertising available buildings and lots located in Marion.

The web site also will profile the community with information regarding population, average wages, and other pertinent information.

Mayfield recently attended Location One Training (LOIS) in Chanute to access the web server. Links will be made to the city's web site and to Kansas Department of Commerce. The public will be able to access the site after Aug. 15.

Commission approved an occupational tax license for D&J Liquor Store, quarterly financial statement, June investment and collateral report, and June financial statement.

Prior to the approval of warrants, mayor Martin Tice requested a 10-minute executive session to discuss personnel.

Following the executive session, warrants were approved with a reduction of $1,287. Total warrants approved were $24,704.
